MG MG Y Type - Steering Wheel Springwasher
I am looking for a toothed spring washer (or whatever the correct name is) that secures the steering wheel nut to the steering column. Could not find one locally. The diameter of the shaft reads 19mm (3/4"). cheers, Anton ![]() |

External (fine) tooth lock washer / serrated / shakeproof or you could get internal tooth. M18 in metric but be aware some list as 18mm id rather than 19mm. |

Thank you Nigel Any idea, where to get? Anton |

Anton, if you've got anywhere local to you that sells stuff to farmers they might have such fittings to perhaps sell loose rather than messing around ordering over the internet and/or post to find it's 18mm and not 19mm or 3/4" and/or having to buy in multiplies. |

Nigel My search was successful. I got three external tooth lock washers with a Company that produces hydraulic hoses for trucks and heavy roadwork equipment. Thank you for your support Anton |

Anton,
sorry I missed your post - well done. Just out of curiosity what did they call them and what was their size (if M18 were they 19mm i.d.)? A small shop I used to go to is quite a rare type in these parts as it sold lots of nuts, bolts and fittings including hydraulic and you used to be able to buy as little as you needed, one washer if you had the cheek, and the chap would insist on giving you a hand written receipt every time. But they must have been taken over a while back as the chap was still there but gave printed till receipts only and the stock range had changed plus lower quality tools added. |

Hello Paul & Nigel Thank you for your posts. Probably our comments crossed. I was able to get three of them over here in Switzerland. Asking price: "a donation for our coffee piggy bank". In Swiss-German they are called "Faecherscheiben", which translates to something like Fan Disc. They are described as 18mm (to fit a 18mm bolt). But are I/D 19mm in reality. Nigel's "external tooth lock washers" is a very precise name. cheers Anton |
