Dave, off topic but thumbing through August 2018 Safety Fast magazine on page 65 of Overseas page it shows a Dave Mullen winner of the John Thornley trophy, is this you good self? I often read your posts on here and wondered if there is face to name so to speak? Cheers Richard |

Dave et al - I just want to say that this is exactly what I think we as a fraternity should be doing - alerting owners to best current price for new or replacement parts. Like many, I spend hours flicking between the websites of which I am aware - but that's the point, I probably miss all sorts of vendors at different times.
Example: correct spec. new outer door handles can be horribly expensive, and I need two - so if anyone spots a "special"somewhere, I'd love to know. Keep up the good work, from which we all benefit. Yours, John. |

Herr Franz, Atached are photos of the original sunroof handle and "nut" fitted to Y saloons. The nut measures 3/8" od by 1 3/32" long. It is made of chrome plated brass. The threaded end is countersunk to mate with the operating shaft. There is a groove cut circumferencially 1/4" from the slotted end. The groove is not visible when the nut is in place. The slotted end is very slightly convex. The nut fits flush with the handle when in place. RC von Dϋllen YB0952 ![]() ![]() |

thx for the picture
a picture say more than 1000 words my handle has a vintage style ;-) all chrome parts are not good and showes the age of the car have to take the lathe again and than the nut will be ok for me perhaps my son has dismanteled the handle, never seen such a nut, but perhaps i find it when i make the final clean up the date comes near when the car comes back to the street the story of restoration is here https://www.mgexp.com/forum/t-series-and-prewar-forum.46/mg-ya-no-1675-from-1948.4022768/ |

When you fit this special bolt/screw, fit an anti-rattle star washer.
For several months this screw would work loose while driving my saloon, and it would scare the (you know what) out of me when the handle dropped off and landed in my lap/arm/floor while driving. Attempts to do it up tighter and tighter to stop it were to no avail, but the star washer fixed it. The other special screw in a YA is the one that retains the windscreen winder handle - don't loose that one !. Safety Fast Tony Slattery The Classic Workshop Black Mountain Australia |
