MG MG Y Type - sun visor and door locks
My yb came of the road in 1968 and is finally on it's way back but for the life of me I can't see how the sun visors fix, does anyone have an exploded diagram of that area. Also is it possible to put new lock barrel in the drivers door handle |

Hi JR Congratulations. Yes it is possible to put a new barrel in the driver door handle, but frankly the easiest and cheapest way is to buy a complete new locking door handle from NTG. As to the sun visors the screw into reatining nuts that are welded to the roof panel. If you feel with your finger along the leading edge of the inside of the roof panel you should be able to feel them. Not sure, but I would be inclined to bet the farm they are a BA thread on the screw. While you are ordering the locking door handle from NTG talk to Mike Green and ask him if he has any of the appropriate counter sink screws that will fit the captive threads. Then, when you have located the holes and have the screws, pierce the headliner and make a large enough hole to fit the screws. Before you fit the visor bracket up, screw the screw in to ensure that the screw is not going to catch the head liner and wrap head liner around the screw as it goes in. If it does you will destroy the headliner ... and need to redo that so a little bit of time here is going to be better than literally "screwing up" the headliner. Paul |

The new drivers door handles dont have the thread for the locking screw in the square shaft of the original handle which prevents unscrewing it from the outside (the two screws) whereas the original handles do.Other than that they are the same.Cant wait to see the car if its not been on the road since'68. Presume its on the 'parade' here. |

Thanks for replies. I still can't see how sun visors fit there's got to be something obvious missing.Any more clues please Thanks john |

Hi john, I have attached a photo of the area where the sun visors bolt on. you cannot see the threaded screw holes but there are 2 on each piece of metal below the head lining .If you feel the headlining you should find these pieces of the metal structure as they are directly behind the headlining. hope this helps Chris ![]() |
