MG MG Y Type - Sun Visor brackets

If anyone needs a pair of sun visor brackets, I have found a source of supply in Melbourne Australia. Brand new, $20 each. I would be happy to buy on your behalf or better still, provide contact details of vendor. (I have no financial interest whatsoever in these items.)

Neil,

May I suggest post on links page of the IMGYTR. As active and brilliant as this forum is, the thread will eventually fall down list and may slip mind of someone in need down the line.

Should have done that in the first place!

Obtainable from Automotive Surplus whose details are shown in the links page as general suppliers or you can email them direct. sales@autosurplus.com.au

Their pricing structure is variable - depends on which member of staff you ask! You could mention my name as having been quoted (and paid) $A20 each for them i the recent past.

They have a shoebox full of brackets, I haven't counted them but I guess they have 20 or 30 in stock. They look like new old stock, underneath the base they have some markings "M123" and "WB Australia" which I am guessing is Wilmot Breedon's Australian subsidiary, which I believe used to manufacture parts in this country.

After several tries, managed to upload this picture of the under side of sun visor bracket base.

That's interesting Neil, I have had a number of people over the years buy old ones of these for other makes of UK cars - unobtainable they were told !.

I might get Terry to pick up a couple of pairs at that price for my "retirement projects". All I have left are very pitted.

A great find - well done & thanks for letting us all know.

ALthough I have not actually checked it out, apparently they are the same as early BMC Minis. As they say ... never throw anything out of the parts bin! Maybe someone with an early BMC Mini can confirm?

If they are the same as the early Minis, Minispares (http://www.minispares.com) has them listed at £30 + VAT. My Mini is a later one (1992) with a cheaper plastic hinge for the sunvisor

Did some research; early Minis have centre hinged visors, later one's are plastic hinged.

The centre hinge is very different from the Y's. So unless there are other variants, the Mini hinge won't suit.

An example of the center hinge: http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/products/247-products-247/

Maybe someone can get a picture from Minispares (http://www.minispares.com) of their offering to confirm or rebuff this? I see they dont have one on their site curently.

Paul,

Minispares use the same SV2004 partno. for the hinge as Newton Commercial, so I guess that it is the same.

Willem vd Veer

Dont think it is actually Willem.

Can someone in the UK call Minispares and get a photo emailed to them to check please?

Thanks

Paul

Just to be clear: what I mean is that the Minispares item is the same as the Newton Commercial and therefore not the same as the Y-type hinge.

Neil,
I expect that you will have tried NTG
Sorting some paperwork, I found an invoice from them from way back in '05 for one of these, cost about 20 quid inc VAT Perhaps they still stock this item.

Currently shown as out of stock but ... http://www.leacyclassics.com/559353.html show them at £12.77 plus VAT.

I am working on the Mini connection rumor I heard a while back but Minispares have now posted a picture of their item and it is the same. More to follow ....

Paul

Thanks for the Leacy Classics link, interesting supplier, I have put the visor hinges on their wish list and maybe if a few more do the same it may persuade them to stock/get made a new batch!
