MG MG Y Type - Thread size - Fuel tank
What is the thread size of the stud on the rear of the fuel tank? I seem to have lost the nut and can't find one that fits. Is this a BSF size? The closest I can find is 3/8"-24 but it doesn't seem quite right. |

Steve, Have a look on the Technical Centre pages - there you will find a table of threads and you should be able to sort it from there. Do you have a thread counter guage? If you are still having problems, and cannot work out - post again and I will put one of my Ys on the lift, and strip the nut down and let you know what I find. Paul |

I only have regular SAE and Metric thread gauges. Nothing to tell me if it's SAE or BSF. I went to the Y-Types web site but couldn't find this nut in any of the charts. I suppose I could just order a BSF nut in my next Moss order and see if it fits. Just to be clear, this is the nut in the rear of the fuel tank which sits on a stud. No need to put the car on the lift! You can access it easily while on the ground, just behind the rear bumper. Don't take your car apart on my account though! |

On a Y type, the thread will be BSF. Cheers - Dave |

Thanks Dave, that's what I suspected. I'll have to pick up a nut at Moss this weekend. |

I can confirm that on YT3861 is is definitely 3/8" BSF. I just removed the original nut & replaced it with a nickel plated one & some anti-sieze. There should also be a flat washer and star washer under the nut. |

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know! |
