MG MG Y Type - TYme Canberra
Just wondering if any BBoards are heading to Canberra in Early October? I will be, if I can get a few miles on the YT's rebuilt engine before hand. cheers Stuart |

Hi Stuart, I am on the Canberra organising committee and responsible for the display on Sat morning and will be there in YT4825. Looking forward to catching up with other Y & T owners and the broader MG community at this great event. My workshop and hoist is also available to any that may need some mechanical attention during the weekend. Regards, Ewan |

Hi Ewan, I am working on a couple of Y-Types (YT & YA)at the moment that we hope to have ready for MG TYme - it's going to be a last minute rush unfortunately with an unexpected engine swap underway. Cheers Tony |

Hi Tony and Ewan I made the decision last night not to attend as I will not have time to put miles on my rebuilt engine before having to start the long 1100km journey to Canberra. The engine will not be back in car and the car roadworthy until next week and then I am away for a week - so I will only have 2 weeks before having to head to Canberra. I advised Brian last night and he so far has yourself plus Matthew Crawford, Bob Simpson, and Elliot Burns of Sydney taking YTs. cheers Stuart |

Hi Guys How about some photos of the Ys in Canberra. FYI. my YTs engine is still not back together. A supposedly top Brisbane engine rebuilder "forced" (with a press) bolts into the conrods and caps. We have been able to get the bolts out (with a press) but as the conrod metal is stretched we are reinstalling the bolts and now need to ream out the caps so the bolts can tighten down the caps on the crankshaft. Getting the correct reamer is proving difficult. cheers Stuart |

Stuart - give someone a chance to file a report with me and please give me time to squeeze editing the site to incorporate the report onto the site. I am sure Tony is working on it for us. We are all only volunteers in the IMGYTR (no paid staff here!) so this has to be worked into our schedule! :)! Paul |

You'll need to take them into an engine reco place where they will have to remove the studs, reface the rods and caps, refit the studs"polish to correct fit size" tension it to specs and then hone the tunnels--You need someone with a Sunnen hone to keep everything square Ask your local speedway racing aces where they get theirs done It's a normal reco process called -resizing willy I don't normally recomend someone I don't know but a friend from Brisbane staying here at the moment reckons he always goes to Scott Trappett at SP Automotive Engineering in Brizzy, he got sick of getting dodgy results elsewhere, He'd love to know who your stud forcer was but probably best not to name and shame on here I guess cheers willy |

I have the conrods back with straightened bolts and reamed out caps. Done by a local Cylinder head company which also does race engines. On Monday I hope to start putting the engine back together. The company which pressed the bolts into the conrods is situated in Underwood and does a lot of work on dragster engines, so I don't know why they stuffed up my conrods. The work they did on bore reaming, line boring, crank and flywheel/clutch and piston balancing etc on the engine is perfect. The engine should run very smoothly. cheers Stuart |

Cheers Stuart You will need to pay particular attention to bearing crush spec when assembling, unless they had your shells when they did the rods Trust nobody, check ,check, check |
