MG MG Y Type - UMG 360

I found this advert (attached) whilst sorting through a load of crap that I have binned. However, I thought that it was worth saving. Its from the May 1986 edition of 'Thoroughbred and Classic Cars' (Originally and now once more 'Classic Cars').

I didn't initially recognise the car, though the number plate and description rang a bell. I forwarded the info through to Jack Murray, who knew the car well. The second owner was Trevor Austin and his exploits appeared regularly in John Lawson;s newsletters of the time and has been featured in several magazines. Jack tells me that the car was sold in 2002 to an owner in Belgium and presumably is till there. Does anyone know?

A little Christmas teaser for you as you mull over your turkey etc, etc and the odd glass or three of something!

I am advised that the file is too large. So will re-size and try forwarding once more.

Cheers

I'm sorry Guys. Once more I have been defeated by technology. However, I'll email it to Paul and see if he can post it!

Hi Jerry

A quick check of the on-line database will show the car as Y 5205 and that the car is on Ys on Parade with it's current owner!!

I have sent Jerry an email back about the advert too, so watch this site :)

Jerry, thank you for letting us put this on the site - the site has now been updated.

Adjustment for inflation £16,538.75 at todays prices for UMG360...did they get their £6250 back in 1986?

Trevor's car, and indeed Trevor himself, were very helpful indeed to me while rebuilding UMG366, and I will post later a pic of the two cars side by side after completing the Regency Run a year or two before Trevor sold the car.

Interestingly, while UMG360 is chassis Y5205, my car - six registration numbers later - is Y6814: roughly a year's production younger, though they were both registered in May 1951. Trevor and I couldn't immediately see why this would have happened, unless University Motors had very poor stock control or Abingdon held the older car back for a long time: unlikely at a time when a dealer could sell every new car many times over. Any theories out there?

I had the great pleasure of meeting Trevor at the Cranleigh Classic Car Show in August - he now drives a Rover P4, which is more suited to his wife's needs. As Jerry has said, he sold his Y to a Belgian home - sight unseen, apparently, though in this case the risk was very low I'd have said.

Happy Christmas to one and all here, by the way, and thanks for all the interesting discussions and support this year!
