MG MG Y Type - Valve Stem Oil Seals
I am the restoring the XPAG engine on my 1949 MG YT and wish to add valve stem oil seals to prevent leakage as described in the Neil Cairns "XPAG Files". Need recommendations and source in the US. |

You may need a groove machining around the top of the valve guide stem for some types of seals such as those fitted to old style minis. Ian |

Ian, There in lies the problem. The valve guides for the MG TC/YT as supplied by Moss et al don't have the groves. Ed |

Ian--Personally I don't think there's a need , the std seals do a good job fine. But if you're intent on doing it--do you have a measurement for the od of the top of the guide please. I've heard that early VW Golf seals fit but just want to check the size before recommending them. They're a firm push on fit and don't need the groove to hold them on. willy |

Thanks Willy, will check it out. Ed |

Cheers Ed, This is the seal that I've been told works, apparently it's a fairly tight fit on the guide but will fit It says 10.8mm on the seal but I 'think' the top of the guide is 12mm --you'd have to get one and try it, but I've been told they do fit and are small enough outside to clear the inner shroud---Don't know just going off 2nd hand info- Hope this helps https://www.mickmotors.com.au/product-valve-stem-seals-passatgolf-audi-t4-8mm-7464.aspx |
