MG MG Y Type - Very Early YA

We run a little classic car business with my Dad.
Yesterday we saved this Y and an MG Magnette from being banger raced!!! These cars are true barn finds, cob webs and all.

Which Y? Can't see any photo or reference to which Y?
R E Knight

It's number Y 0264

From what I can see this is the oldest known YA in the UK and second oldest production car worldwide after Y0253.

Hello,

What is the condition of Y0264?

Would you be prepared to share photos for viewing?

Please do contact the web admin of International Y Type Register www.mgytypes.org for upload to their searchable data base as found on front page screen half way down.

I have no affiliation to the site, but like many Y Type owners have used this site for many years in fact since 2002,it offers all you need to know for Y Type and has done more for Y owners than any of the clubs or books and to this day it never ceases to amaze me how new barn finds come to light every year via this web site and affiliated BBS.

Thanks for the post it's nice to hear another Y survivor.

The condition is rough at first glance.
I have now dismantled the car to look at condition. It doesn't seem to bad.

I am happy to share photos, but they aren't up to much, they are of the vehicle is a dismantled state.

After speaker with people from the MG car club and the MG Y register it seems the car was on the database, but nothing heard for decades maybe, about the car.

Originally the car would have had the reg mark MG 7309 and would probably have been sold at Universal Motors in PIccadilly, London.

It was the 14th car off of the production line and is certainly the oldest UK example, and second earliest in the world behind the first ever production car. However I believe it to be the oldest car that we can prove to still be in existence as I'm told that Y0253 hasn't been seen or heard of for so long....I may be incorrect.

I'm currently debating whether to sell as it is or to complete the restoration myself.

Thanks for update. Good luck either way you decide, but please keep us all updated of outcome, hopefully one Y back on the road.

Great to see such an early YA turn up - made my day seeing it listed on 'Ys on Parade' - hopefully someone will get it back on the road in the not too distant future. A great opportunity for a Y enthusiast - if only I were younger and much richer!
