MG MG Y Type - Wanted - Hub puller
Can anyone recommend a suitable brake drum hub puller, or in the Bristol, UK area lend me one so I can check my brake linings and cylinders. My hubs won't move. |

For a YB? |

Yes, a YB |

You need one of these John https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/tools/18g304.jpg Paul |

Where do I get one? NTG are out of stock of theirs. |

Ian, eBay. I've got many discs, not lots of female threaded bolts, mine I got from USA. I used mine on the YB today and it pulls off hub no bother. I'm just bit too far to you otherwise could have helped you. Richard |

I've seen this Katsu heavy duty puller on Amazon and Ebay. Will this do the job? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00K30S1US/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A33LRO9OOPCNMX&psc=1 |
I Anderson |
Where did you get yours from here (in the US) Richard? |
Paul Barrow |
John and Richard This looks like it may do the job - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144367763763? What are your thoughts Richard? |
Paul Barrow |
All, I do not think either of the two hub pullers suggested will do, the spread between the bolts are actually fairly space out, I might be wrong but my fear is it won't work, the arms are quite restricted too for the one size.
https://mgaguru.com/mgtech/tools/18G304.htm The above link is how it should look. I have several of the discs acquired over years from eBay but only one set of the female threaded bolts. I know a company Derbyshire direction was making old / new stock Churchill tools. https://www.churchillmachinetools.co.uk/about-us/ Maybe with the right dimensions, tooling they could make one, costs, whether it is worth their while that I would not like to say. Paul, my bolts I got off vendor on ebay who just happened to be selling from USA, cost me in import tax, but now I have it small price to pay. Regards Richard |

Richard Found this in the UK this morning - https://vlchurchill.co.uk/Classic-Mini-/-Metro-/-Allegro-/-ADO16-FLYWHEEL-Puller-BMC-Leyland Should be the tool Paul |
Paul Barrow |
The problem is the distance from the hub centre to the wheel studs which I measured as 150mm, so it has to span at least 300mm across studs. |

I asked V L Churchill whether this tool would work for 18G304 and they have advised they are about 4 weeks out from making an 18G304 so I have asked them to let me know when they do. Watch this website and space for news. Paul |

V L Churchill Tooling have confirmed to me this morning that they will, not only be making the discs and puller threaded shaft for 18G304 but also making about 9 different types of bolts to go with the puller for different applications. This is important to us because from YB 0251 to YB 0285 we need 1/2" BSF male and female bolts but from YB 0286 to YB 1551 we need 1/2" UNF threaded bols - see https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/tools.shtml for details! I was lent a homemade puller by a TD owner who lives nears me. This was necessary to pull the hubs off the front wheels, the rear hubs came off the splines with no trouble. I found one brake cylinder on each of the front wheels and both of the rear wheel cylinders seized. |

If my memory serves me correctly, Ted Gardner had a batch of very simple, but effective Hub Pullers made some years ago here in UK. Presumably they are lurking under various Member's garage benches and if no longer used could be sold on or lent to Members in need. I have one that could be borrowed. I'm in Bedford UK Keith ![]() |

I forgot to say that this simple design allows you to use your existing wheel nuts, whether they be BSF or UNF, without any further additions to the tool. Keith |

You could try Sealey in the uk , they have quite a good range . |
