MG MG Y Type - Water-cooled Y Type?

So someone contacted me recently to say they had an old, rusty MG engine they were taking to the dump. I said "no you're not", and drove sight-unseen for an hour to see what it was. It turned out to be XPAG SC 10803 block with octagonal plate intact; block rusted away internally but presentable from the outside. Head rotten but again presentable as an ornament; rocker cover good; timing chain cover fine; sump holed but cleans up ok.
So all in all, not much use except as a garden water feature! So I cobbled up a stone plinth; wire-brushed and heavily fishoiled the engine parts; fed water from a hidden pump and reservoir, up the centre of the sump and through the head to the rocker cover, where it feeds out through several holes in a horizontal pipe hidden under the rocker cover; water emerges as a curtain from under the rocker cover and trickles down to return to the reservoir.
The attached picture is poor, but gives a general idea. It beats consigning a poor old Y type engine to the dump!
As a postscript, the same source yielded rear axle/diff assembly, complete bonnet, 2 sets of grille slats, 2 radiator shells, and various sundries. Worth an hour's drive!
Regards, John.

John, congratulations for taking the initiative to salvage some Y Type parts.

Love it!
D MULLEN

Well done - you would pay a fortune for that as a work of art !!!

Either you have a very understanding partner or a very big garden. I love it.

Searching through our database but sadly we have no record of which Y this was in. Maybe one day some guarantee plates may turn up!

John I dont suppose they had any other bits like maybe some plates?

Sadly no other plates, Paul. Is 10803 1948?
I also fluked the gauges (dashboard), which might be of use eventually as I don't know how many originals are still around. John.
