Hi Don

Contact Mike Silk the Regalia chap for the MGCC Y Type Register by visiting their site: www.mgccyregister.com and scroll down to the Regalia site. They are not cheap but they are quality products (Chrome over brass I think).

Hope that helps

All the best

hi, thanks jerry will get in touch with them ,will ak them what the under base metal is,if it is brass then that is a better quality, but it seems to me that what ever you want to buy for your y ( from a washer to a engine)the s==== rip you off ( thanks again don.

The Y Reg shop is trialling stainless steel Ace wheel trims and we have ordered a couple of sets from the manufacturer to test the quality. Mike Silk will provide the latest info. As always it is the low production numbers compared with the T Types that put the cost up for Y parts that are not common to other models.
The Y Register has identified many of these parts and sells them at a none profit making price that only allows us to continue to supply such items. Members price at the Octagon Club is invariably the next best option. NTG prices do often seem excessive but then what would we do without them as they are the only source for many Y parts. I am stealing myself to buy a set of very expensive NTG YA handbrake cables that I can’t find anywhere else.

If you check the Links page at www.mgytypes.org, as everyone looking for suppliers shoud, under <Suppliers> you will see <Cables - Hand brake, Clutch, Speedometer and Tachometer> which will refer you to my good friends at Sppedograph Richfield who will supply you the correct, Left and Right handed offset Greas nippled cables.

When you go to Speedograph's Brake Cables, then Application List, there is a long list to load, but I will save you the trouble of looking it up, but eventually MG will load. The Manufactures are all loaded by MODEL, and under MG you will see two lines for YA 1.25 Litre 1947 to 52 (also fit YT) and over on the right hand side of their list you will see their reference numbers 2053 and 2054 - you need one of each.

YB owners handbrake cable is 2055.

Call them on +44(0)115 926 4235, fax them on +44(0)115 920 9912 or email on Info@speedographrichfield.com - they take credit cards and ship worldwide. I have ordered several sets for various Ys over the years that have been brought to me here in Washington for service from all over the country. Order Monday, arrived Thursday and fitted Friday - doesnt get much better.

Superb company to deal with ... and that is why they are recommended on the International MG Y Type Register site.

Speedograph can also supply your cables for Speedometer and Tachometer needs.

Guys,

Endorse your comments regards link page. Within the last month I had shocks rebuilt by Graham Brown in Croydon, I am about to use Travel Destinations for a cheaper discounted crossing on Eurotunnel for July Sommertreff, also got excellent deal even after euro/£ exchange at C & C for brake parts. Also got couple drip trays to collect from Pelham solutions, compared to cut off bean tin alternative!

Another useful source of info is the ttypes.org

Knowledge is power as they say and suffice to say 99% of the time the answer is on IMGYTR or BBS Archive and it's all free, what service!

Another bonus I also won the Moss competition for vouchers in MGCC SF monthly article last month, thanks to luckY Y being in the photo.

MG Octagon is also excellent source along with eBay too, suppose it's knowing who to use at the right time.

Thanks for the reminder Paul, I have often used your suppliers list and should have checked it. Speedograph have just got back to me and they can save me £34 on a pair of YA handbrake cables.

Happy to hear you were successful Peter. Speedograph are great people to work with and we are proud to feature them on the list.

From experience it is best to strip and fit one side at a time so that you can get the grease nipple orientation correct.

If for any reason there is an issue (one time they did fit the wrong fitting at the end of a Jaguar XK speedometer I ordered), I called them they told me sorry first off which was great, and then said to put the wrong one in the trash and a correct replacement was here in the US within 72 hours.

Great Service and Great Product and Great Prices - what more can you ask for.

Just thought you would like to see a pic of my car with wheel trims fitted .I think they really enhance the look .

E Winters

Mr. Winters, have seen your photos of your car with trims, they realy do look nice,it,s made me even more determined to get a set.I am fitting a vac gauge to my y,, on the inlet manifold there is apurpose drilled hole blanked off with a bolt, it looks original, do you or anybody else know what the size and thread it is prosuming it is a standered fitting .don
d walker

Hi Don

If the hole was purpose drilled into the manifold it would probably be a Whitworth thread which would be non-standard. I am not immediately recalling any such standard hole plugged by a bolt though so you may be lucky and have a hole that is non-standard and therefore either metric or standard imperial inch. If you do not have a thread guage, remove the bolt and take it to a good automotive store and they should be able to tell you the pitch. If they cannot get a decent match with their tool, then it is probably Whitworth as the pitch and angle of thread is unique on Whitworth in which case you will have trouble finding a matching nipple and may have to have the hole re-threaded. Normally I would go check on my Y ans YT manifolds but I am just off to work now. If you want to send me a picture of what you are looking at, I will double check this evening for you.
