MG MG Y Type - where is my YA?

Many years ago while I was in the Air Force I had MG YA,I was based at R.A.F Brize Norton and spent most of my time away,so I took the MG home to Cornwall and left it there ,my dear old dad decided it was cluttering up the garden and sold it!! a mate of his needed an engin for a TD.
He explained that it was making the place untidy and yes we did have words about it, I never saw any money for it either as he was a chartered accountant he explained that funds due had been re-approtriated.... Ha!!actualy I still have the log book some where, I wonder if it has any valeue? NB would Mr Ken Stanton please get in touch!!

If you want to get in touch off line from the BBS and give me the chassis number, we can check our records and see if we know where it is. Also, if you have a picture of the car we can feature it on our Lost Y's page and maybe if we cannot trace it now we may be able too later.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Paul

Hi Paul thanks for that I can't find the log book at the moment but I know I have it some where,my guess is that the car was distroyed sadly, and no photo either it needed a lot of T.L.C at the time but it did have a M.O.T.

Hi Phil

When you find it, drop me a note with that chassis number (Y/xxxx) and we'll see. You may be surprised! Strange things happen in the Y zone!

Remember, before there were X-men on TV there were Y-people!

Phil,

On the DVLA web site you can search for vehicle details held by DVLA by typing in the Registration and mae of vehicle. Using the detail provided they have no record. Does not mean to say it does still not exist though likely not to be on the road/worthy condition as you anybody using a car in the Uk is going to have a record with DVLA if a classic lets face it.

Hi Phil
The bad news:
I have checked with our registrar and we have never had detail of your car registered with us unfortunately. Another blow is that it is no longer listed on the DVLA either.

Worse:
As you suspect, it has probably been re-registered with the orange coloured cloud in the sky now.

The good news:
However, there are a few other good YAs still around for you!!

Best wishes

Hi Paul

Many thanks for your interest, well its gone gutted!like so many other great cars I have had in the past,I will list a few 1952 AC saloon, MG ta sold for scrap in 1967 £40. Alfa Junior GT rusted away in the garage before my very eyes sold to Marlin cars Plymouth,.
Jaguar 4.2 Sovereign Mk 3 chreished for many years the rust worm got that one.
I am now on my third MGB this one is for keeps much work to do but she will be fine.Current transport Audi Avant quattro a fine example 1992 in Black.
Wish list MG TF always wanted one of thoes, another Alfa or an AC of any sort.

Cheers for now Phil.

A remarkable co-incidence! A school friend of mine bought FTP103 in Sussex in 1969 (the registration is Portsmouth) for I think £15 and kept it in Horsham, where it was responsible for my early interest in things Y-type, and so for the purchase of UMG366 in 1970, which sits in the garage now (see the thread on water pump removal!).

FTP was black with dark green upholstery, the usual rotten floor boards, and an exhaust system which was not gas tight, to say the least. It was as Phil says sold in 1971, and I presume it was sold to him. I do recall that at the time the driver's door lock had jammed, which made getting out of the driving seat somewhat hazardous..... I don't think I have any pictures, and certainly no more recent history, but how nice to hear of the car again.
Tim Griggs

Hi Tim
Well how about that !!I have the log book record of your pal, its a continuation book but only goes back to 1964 to a Mr A Brown of Royston, I bought it in March 1970 I drove it to RAF Wattisham then had an epic journey to Plymouth, you are quite rite it was black with green int..The drivers seat was a bit iffy and the pasenges one was sort of free but that had some quite good advantages as I remember ,it ran a treat, oh yes that rings a bell the distributer had a problem the timing screw used to come loose and she would stop ,I fixed it with a self tapper!!I just wonder if it is layed up some where in St Teath ?? KEN! are you there??
