MG MG Y Type - Winding Window Rubber
I have just collected my newly painted shell from the paint shop. It was dismantled about 20 years ago and I am now ploughing through boxes of tatty trim and pieces of split plywood trying to work out what goes where.... Its like doing a jigsaw without the box lid! Anyway....I am trying to find out what seal was used on the outer lower edge of the door windows. I dont recall there being any trim in that position on my car when I first had it and there is nothing obvious in the boxes. I cant find anything on line or in my books either. Thanks Rob ![]() |

Hi Rob Looks wonderful! I have looked through the appropriate chapter in 'Let there be Y's' and can find very little on windows other than the wooden surround. it might be worthwhile having a chat with Jack Murray or Peter Arnell. Jack rebuilt his YA back in the early 1990''s whilst Peter's YB is very original. I'll provide their contact details to you offline if that is of any use. Sincerely Jerry |

Jerry, Thanks for that, I have contact details for Jack and Peter. Richard, Thanks for the comment and the link, but I dont know what I'm looking for as my car had no outer glass seals. Rob |

Here are two examples what it could/should look like?

Hi Willem, Thanks for the photos.... So it looks like the metal strip covered in black fluffy fabric which was fitted to the inside as a draught excluder was fitted on the outside as well? That explains why I cant find any old rubber seals in my boxes of trim bits. But it doesn't seem to be a very effective 'seal'. Rob |

Rob They are the same both sides of the glass Woolies supply them. They are very tricky to fit, I used very small c/s self tapers as the heads need to be below the surface of the brushes. Peter |

Woolies catalogue No 152 or website http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1025-window-weatherstrip.aspx I don't think the clips they sell for the strip work on a Y Type. They also sell the correct flexible window channel Peter |
