MG MG Y Type - window channel
Hi All By window channel I am referring to the moulded U shaped channel that fits across the top of the window and goes down both sides into the door . The window slides up and down in it . It seems that Woolies and NTG are the favoured suppliers , I was just wondering if people had any preference as to which they would use ? Quality? Fit? All comments appreciated . Thanks a lot John B |

Hi JK Woolies is good channel i have used on several cars, i have looked on the NTG site and cannot see y channeling on there??not in the YB page anyway John YB0362 |

just had a look on NTGs y and ytpage and although there is a roll of channel on there it states it's for Z models etc so the size might not be right John YB0362 |

Hi John Thanks for that , cant remember where I read it now but NTG was a possibility, perhaps it was an old post? Anyway will look at Woolies, Cheers John B |

Hi John, The Woolies part number is 151. I have used it on all four windows on my Y Type and it works well. Geoff |

Hi how long should it be some other parts to order there for a restoration? |

I've only got the rears out at present, and they appear to be about 5'(guessing) The front ones appear longer. I will try and measure accurately next time I am at my garage, and quote the sizes in metres ! John B |

FT With regard to the length of the channel. My rear ones are about 180cms each ,bit difficult measuring around the corners so this is approximate . The front ones are still in the doors but I reckon they are about the same ,again difficult to measure . Anyway I think if you order 8 metres you will have plenty. JohnB |

Franz - just reactivating to ask you: did you refurbish & reuse your window channels ("Bailey channel")? I looked at various new replacements, and none had the polished stainless bead that so nicely finishes off the appearance of the door/window join. Also in Australia anyway, the need to freight them as straight 2-metre lengths in a cylinder made it prohibitively expensive. So I am replacing the old felt/velvet in the runners, using a special strong tape to refinish the outer casing, polishing the stainless bead, and re-installing. Cost: virtually nothing. Just interested in what you did, given that you have a record of ingenuity!

Just interested in what you did, given that you have a record of ingenuity! John. i have to laugh a little bit :-) i have seen in my blog but the information there is missing also i looked to my ebay account, don t know where i have bought the channel Sorry so much pictures, but to the end of the restoration i haven t made so much pictures as in the beginning |
FT Franz |
Ah, so Franz you replaced your window channels with new ones - I understand, because they become unserviceable over time. I'm lucky, mine can (just) be salvaged. I might add a couple of progress pictures here later in case anyone is interested. John. |
