MG MG Y Type - Window Channels

Happy New Year to All.

The latest project for the Y Register for 2008 is to manufacture some window channels, and as a consequence I am looking for some old ones that we could use as patterns. It is not a good idea to remove them from a running car but if anybody has a car stripped down then this would be ideal.

I am located near Gatwick and can collect locally or will be more than happy to rebate postage and packing costs. Please contact me either on or off board if you are able to help.

Incidentally any feedback about the Mushroom Bolts and Seat Runner Brass Strips would be appreciated. I know my own seats slide again but wonder about the success rate elsewhere.

With thanks.

Hi David,

Happy New Year to you as well !

If nobody else steps forward you will have to wait for the Beaulieu Spring Autojumble :-)

I should have a set around somewhere and can send them with a friend and re-collect them in September if that sounds good for you.

Regards

I am surprised that no one else has commented here already, so I must!

Owning 2 YTs and a YA, and currently repairing a YT for someone else, I have to say I bought a pair of strips (and a set of bolts) for each of the cars and boy what a difference!!

On my cars, although I had seat runner strips in the YA already) what a difference they make. On the YT that I am repairing although the seat runners etc wasnt on the original list of to dos I replaced the awful mess that someone else had done and the difference is night and day.

An excellent addition to the club's regalia and resto stuff and one that even folk WITH existing original strips should consider as the old ones are now probably worn very thin and are not as efficient as these new ones.

Great stuff

Thanks

I am still waiting for some warmer weather and time to fit my new seat runners but will report back as soon as I do.I may have some window channels somewhere (rear door?) if you mean the pieces that bolt inside the door that the flexible channeling sits in at each lower side - apologise for inadequate description. Please confirm waht you are referring to and I will dig out my bits and pieces in the garage.

David P is referring to the metal piece that is attached to the bottom of the window. He has a rear that I sent him, but he needs a front. The front windows are quite different to the rears as the rears run on a more conventional lever and channel type mechanism. The fronts have attachments for the pulley wires. Moreover of course they are handed. This latter point isnt that much of a problem as EGSWT who will be making these are able to flip the drawings once they have a sample to make one side from.

Waiting on warmer weather??? Must be all of a 5 minute job ... come on Dave, not like you at all!!

I have had a kind offer from Pat in Ireland to provide me with examples of the front window channels so my immediate problems have been resolved. Once the prototypes have been completed, production will start.

I would like to thank everybody for their kind offers. Manfred I will still stop by and have a cup of coffee and a chat with you at Beaulieu in September.

The most difficult part of fitting the new brass runners is taking the seat out. I look forward to future reviews of the runners.

Regards.

... and that isnt all that difficult either compared to a modern car!

The new seat nuts are also a welcome addition after so many years of having to cobble together something less than satisfactory to replace missing originals!

Thanks again David.

Any photos of the runners available?

If you go to www.mgytypes.org, and click on Book Review and Regalia, then Regalia, you will find both the runners and the bolts listed in the Accessories section. Click on the Hyperlinked picture for a larger version. These are high grade remanufactured items to the original designs.
