MG MG Y Type - Windsreen surround

I bought off ebay what was advertised as a Y Type window surround and from the photograph looked ok,
On Collection I thought that this looked a little different to the one on my car, the holes for the hinges and centre windout mechanism were in the right place. A little staining on the inside of screen in a position in line with where the ashtrays would be...
The outside profile is round and polished chrome.
Was there more then one type of screen used or is this off another model.

I noticed it looked a bit odd when I viewed it on ebay - might be Wolseley 8 or similar. If you still need a Y type one I have one to spare.

Hi Malcom

Probably (without looking at the picture) I'd guess it was Morris 8 maybe, but same as David, if you need one, I have a couple of spares. Can ship with or without glass.

Hello David & Paul.
Thanks for the offer but the one in the car is perfect, I fitted new rubber some years ago ( what a job) but now for some reason the rubber is turning outwards on two corners and not sitting flat.
I thought I would look for another screen fit new rubber and see what happens to that.
I think when I replaced the rubber in the original screen I might have pulled it to tight.
Not to worry the screen is water tight in the garage.
Mal.

Hi Malcolm. Is your car on the road now? Looking forward to seeing it sometime.

The screen is watertight? That's a first - LOL!!

Hi Malcolm, some rubber extrusions do this. It is probably a lighter grade or weight of rubber than originally used. If you want to get it flat again you could open the windscreen out (so you dont blister the paint) and warm it up with a hair dryer and then attach duct tape to the curled up bits and then to the car (careful of the paint with the tape too) somewhere to 'mould it' back to an "inside" curl. When it cools it should set into the right curve, but may flick out again if it gets too warm in that British summer sun, especially if the screen is wound in too tightly.
