MG MG Y Type - wobbly wheels
Hey all, bringing the YT back to life has hit another road block. The wheels are "twisted" to the point that they are not repairable say the "Steel wheel Doctor" in Bath Pa. Now the question; are there any "modern" wheels that will replace the originals? Is there a shop out there that can "true" old MG wheels? Lookiing for help, Tom |

All a question of how bad is bad Tom. I had some pretty beat up ones here in Washington State trued up. If you are willing to send them to me I will take them up to my local (65 mile each way) guy and see what he reckons. Difficult to assess without having them though. As to modern equivalents - not really. That said, they have got to be pretty squared off not to be able to be trued by a good pro. Paul |

Aren't they 5 bolts at 114.3 (4.5 inch)? Hyundai, Nissan, Kia and various others still use that size. http://www.wheelfitment.net/kia Rob |

Hey Rob, WOW! What a great idea. I currently have a wheel at a shop for evaluation. If they can't straighten it/them I will start looking for replacements. Thanks for the idea! Be well, Tom |

The PCD is 5x112 mm. Als used on Mercedes, VW's, but more importantly a lot of trailers have a 5x112 pcd. I now of one YT that runs 15" wheels with an offset of 20 mm. This link is to a wheel with an 30 mm offset, just to get the idea. |

Are you sure it is 112mm, Willem? All other MG/Wolseley and Morris cars were imperial sizes (101.6 or 114.3) |

Using my PCD Gauge, I measure the YA/YT 5 stud PCD at 112.7mm = 4.437" = 4 7/16". Can anyone else confirm this measurement, before I ask Paul to put it on the website ?. Cheers Tony |

Tony's measurement confirms that is it not 101.6 or 114.3. Alas it doesn't confirm 'my' 112mm neither, but it is close. As said before, in Germany there is a YT that uses the trailer wheels with good results. That's where my knowledge comes from and because German authorities (and drivers) are notoriously scrupulous about these things I took it as ' the Gospel'. In the past I've tried to measure the PCD and this resulted in 112-ish mm, but the accuracy of my drawing with a drafting compass probably doesn't compare with a professional PCD gauge. It would indeed be useful if somebody with the correct tools replicates Tony's measurements. |

Any retailer of aftermarket wheels should have a PCD gauge in their shop. |
