MG MG Y Type - Y Saloon Door Stop Rubbers

Does anyone know where I could find a supplier for the door stop rubbers - mine are as hard as a rock and simply falling apart from age.

Hi Tony

I am guessing whether you have a YA or YT because we do not yet seem to have your car on the site on Ys on Parade. If you can let me know which you have it would be good and an entry on Ys on Parade would also be nice for everyone else to see your car.

While you are doing that, I will have a look around and see what I can come up with for you.

Hi Paul,
I am awaiting a visit from a Tech who will upgrade my operating system so my new Digital Camera can converse with my computer and send you the details for Y's on Parade.

The rubbers are for a YA - check the topic title! But I am talking about the buffer rubber on the end of the check link - see page P-16 & illustration P-18 in Y Workshop Manual to clarify the part I am referring.

I thought the YT was also the same type of door check.

cheers

Sorry Tony

Drawn a blank on all fronts. You may have to make up a mould from a kit and get some other grommets and melt the down!

Good luck,

I may have 1 of these spare in my garage somewhere which I would happily send you - no charge. It is not new but it is useable, I think. Please e mail me to arrange if interested.

Thanks for the search Paul and the offer David, but it's not worth the effort for a minor part..

I will investigate the option of a modified polyurethane suspension bush which should perform better than rubber anyway, or simply build up a bush with layers of rubber insertion glued together (there are some wonderful rubber adhesives available these days). Being inside the door, no one will see them easily, so who cares.

Thanks again guys, just wanted to be sure they weren't available of the shelf somewhere before I went down the "homemade" path.

I have not given up on this and my travels took me to ... Australia where I came across www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au who have a page http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/grommets6.jpg and the second row, second from left looks strangely like what you might need. If this is any good and you get some, and they are OK, can you please let us know as it would be good to have a supplier for them.

Thanks

Paul

Sorry I should clarify - second row under door check rubber that is!

Looks good Paul - I will ring/visit them tomorrow and order a set. I will let you know what they are like (size & quality). Looks like part #229.013 is the one.
The supplier you provided is in Melbourne - 2,000km from my home, but there is an agent for OAR in Brisbane!!

Thanks
Tony
PS - How did you find them ? I'll feel like an idiot if they are available across town in Australia (there is an Old Auto Rubber agent in Brisbane - 10 minutes drive from my home) - just never thought he would have them.

The Internet dear boy, the internet!! 'Tis a marvellous thing, but I cannot remember now what I was looking for - Ah, Altzihimers' yes tis a wonderful thing ... err what was that I was talking about?

Dunno!

Good luck and let me know - I look forward to the report, but they look close. Remember (if you can) to tell them you heard about them through the MG Y Type website at www.mgytypes.org!

Hi Paul,
Finally got there today - he had two in stock and they are exactly the same as the Y-Type door stop rubber (I have one very rare un-perished example to compare) - they had it listed to suit Austins and it was news to them that it is the same on a MG Y-Type. Retail price here is less than $4.00AUD each.

If you are interested, I will ask about a wholesale price when the other two arrive late next week, but they will want to know how many we want. Over to you to gauge the interest.

I think I am happy to recommend them as a supplier and post a link to them thank at. Heck at 4 AUD they are "cheap as chips" anrway.

Great news though for anyone else in need and very funny that you went all around the globe to get them, but then we did say when we started this web thing we hope to be a "one-stop shop" for everything Y! If we cannot supply it, it is always good to find someone who can.

Miracles (like this one) we are pleased to do (routinely) - the impossible still takes a little longer! Glad you are happy though.
