Was this car known to the register or is it a new discovery - ableit too late....? |

I am working with Mark to get this info David. Sometimes, when a car is given up on it may be because it really isnt financially economic to proceed- I know I was in that position with Y 4099. Other people start one, then die and the relatives just want shot of the bitsas they are of no value to them or interest. Who knows,so long as they arent broken willfully or to keep T Types going I dont mind as the spares they yield keep other cars rolling that is certain. Hopefully we will find out. Meanwhile - some good spares there! Paul |

I don't suppose it is significant but I believe that he has been selling bits from this car on ebay for many weeks now. |

I bought several Y Type parts from Mark McGuire just before Easter. They were all sound and fairly priced, and I would be happy to buy from Mark again. |

I too have bought stuff from him and can vouch for him. He is very willing to send additional detail and photos of any item - hehas even shipped me stuff that was 'only for collection' ... at a price of course, but we sorted all of that out. Paul |

Like Bill and Paul, I bought some parts - brake shoes - from Mark in the Spring, so I'd add my "positive feedback" here too. The shoes were in very good condition, well packed, and communication was good too. And they work! |

I bought headlampsupports from Mark and VERY, VERY, VERY unfortunately they never arrived. No or very meagre communications about tracing-possibilities in Britain. So my luck ran out this time..... Only two nights ago I dreamed about it, only to discover that the package contained two Y-window-winders: a true nightmare! I feel depressed now thinking about it again. Because of my moving-house (and my non-functioning new home-internetconnection) I haven't had time or interest to think about it more, but now you mention it, can you give me your thought about my dilemma? Leave negative feedback because of the lack of communications over the lost package or positive feedback because of a very nice feeling before the postal services messed up? BTW: I sell quite a lot of general collectibles on a Dutch action-site and I think that if the package gets lost it's the buyers risk. I do believe Mark did his best in sending the parts |

Hi Willem Did you pay for any insurance/tracking? If not it is unfair to leave negative feedback on eBay. If you did, at least you can claim your money back. If you didnt its always a good idea on really rare stuff like this to pay by credit card (Mark takes PayPal) and this also gives some insurance. I always take (and pay extra for) insurance on rare and valuable stuff now I am overseas, and indeed used to when I was in the UK having UK shipping. No postal system is perfect and if there is one thing worse than nothing turning up, it is turning up broken. Sorry to hear of your dilemma, hope they show up any way. I had one item turn up a full four months after the UK post office declared it lost beyond hope - that was with some tracking. By that time I had got my money back from the Post Office insurance claim too! Paul |

Hi Paul, I paid by Paypal, but I think you have to claim within a month, because of my moving house I did not take the time to find out how it works. I got the parts reasonably cheap so I can suffer the financial loss, but I'm still grieving; I was SO glad I found the headlampstays with good mounting studs. You're probably right about negative feedback being unfair, thanks for nudging me in the right direction. |

Willem Claim on PayPal anyway. They can only say No so you will loose nothing. Shame about the bits, but they may turn up. Meanwhile NTG used to sell tem NEW. Paul |

Also if you have a pair that are in good condition apart from the studs I can get longer studs added here by a specialist welder - he did a good job on a pair of boot hinges for me. Paul |

Just to return to the original thread,it seems time to break my Y types as they are worth so much more as spares. Do people prefer to buy from e bay or from an advert on this site? |
DM Gibson |
I would suggest if you are going to do that you consider the risks / returns of auction for a period versus fixed price for unlimited free time. If you go to the classified advertisement section of www.mgytypes.org you will reach Y Type owners whether they are eBay members or not. The decision is yours, but I would suggest you use the Classified section rather than the Bulletin Board Service. Please do remember to let either me or the registrar know which chassis numbers are unfortunately being recycled. Thanks Paul |

I want the rear bumper! :) |
Steve Simmons |
We are joking here - just because something is worth more as spares is not a justification for breaking yet another Y surely ....imagine someone doing that to a T type - even 20 years ago.....are there not enough buyers who want to restore one (few that are left) out there ? |
