MG MG Y Type - Y-type gearbox question
are the gearboxes for YA, YB, TD and TF really the same, as I recently heard? Thanks for your answer. regards Walter |

Hi Walter, I am a bit surprised you haven't attracted any replies yet. I can't help except to say the clutch went from 7 inches to eight I think, and the clutch throw-out shaft upped its diameter sometime in the TD period I think. If you chase through the Moss catalogues you can probably answer this question for yourself. REGARDS kg |

Walter I suggest you check out the NTG mgbits.com website, as they sell both Y and T type parts and when you select a part it will identify which MG model it is part of. There appears to be a lot of interchangable gearbox parts. cheers Stuart |

In a word.... Yes! The transmissions themselves are the same. Differences will be shifter extensions and bell housings. .. CR |

Just rebuilt my gearbox on my YT with TD parts. First gear ,layshaft .layshaft cluster,3/4 inner hub,1/2 inner hub, all bearings, rollers, seals and gaskets from Moss, Notes the sliding hubs were very tight on the splines so I had to rectify with abrasive paper.. DO NOT PUT IN THIRD GEAR WITH THE GEARLEVER HOUSING REMOVED I learnt the hard way.. |
