MG MG Y Type - Y type requires rescuing!

Whilst parked outside the "Talbot" in Ledbury, Herefordshire on the recent Y Spring Run, friend Derek Moore (1952 YB) was approached by a local man passing by who corectly identified our cars. "I know where there's one of these in a garage partly dismantled. The owner wants to get rid of it. Don't know whether its YA or YB" he said.
The car is local to Ledbury in the possession of a Mr.E.M.Rodgers.
The person to contact in the first instance is Alan Armstrong (the passer by) on 07527 170874.

Hi Reg

Thanks for that information, I will try to make time today to give Alan a call and see how we can help them. It is amazing just how many there are still out there that need to be re-discovered isnt it?

Hi,

I've just given Alan a call and am very interested in restoring this Y-type. I just missed out on one locally a few days ago which I was gutted about so If anyone has any more information on it that would be great.

Matthew

P.s Alan said he'd give me a call later so that may sort things.

Go for it and please come back to us with how this pans out.

I'll keep you posted, I got in touch with the current owner and i'm going to sort out details and things tomorrow morning with him, should be collecting it soon after. Hopefully all is good so I can start restoring it soon.

It's a YB by the way, he did mention the number plate but I forgot to write it down and no mention of chassis number yet so i'm not sure if it's currently registered on here.

Well I went and took a look at it today and decided it's too big a task for me!

I turned up to find rust and holes all over (mainly rear but elsewhere too) It's partly dismantled with interior stripped out along with radiator, wings, floor and so on. I think it was YB0962 so the complete later version. It's a none runner and has been as such for at least 5 years. The engine does turn over though.

It'll need new body parts fabricating but the originals are all there.

Chromes generally usable but the seats are ripped and frames rusty.

All in all a great shame as I'd like to look after and restore one but this will take a while and more experience than I have to give! If anyone knows of one going which needs moderate restoration (not badly rusted!) then please let me know but this one's back to you guys.

Matthew.

Contact the MGCC to obtain my contact details off line, and I know of car here in Hants for sale at fair price!

Richard,

Sounds good, I've left a message with them requesting your details and will contact you asap, Hants isn't quite such a drive compared to Bewdley where the other was!

Wish I had the time, money and space but lack all three. I hope this car is saved (with a separate chassis the body panels can be made good without too much effort if you dont want a concours car). Seats etc still come up for sale etc so lets hope there is someone willing to take it on. How about asking Practical Classics to take it on as a feature for their magazine...all in all I am happy if it gets restored eventually as long as it does not become another broken car supplying an engine to a T type!
