MG MG Y Type - YA Door seal rubber

Hi,

Just a question about the door seal rubber, on my 48 YA it goes all the way around the door and seal across the bottom of the door, but on my 1950 YA is doesn't it stops just past the bottom corner, and doesn't seal the bottom of the door it looks clearly as though it was designed this way on all doors. Anyone know if this is correct?

Cheers,
Daniel

Daniel,

There are little channels for it to sit in and these only extend around 1/2 the door -frontie not down the B Pillar side, nor along the bottom of the door.

Hope this helps.

Hi Daniel,

my car is also a 1950 model and the rubber door seal that fits into the channel on the outer edge of the door, runs all the way along the bottom to the pillar.
If the seal stops short of this I would suspect that someone, in the past, has carried out a repair to the door bottom and has not replaced the channel.

Thanks Guys,

Interesting that according to Paul it doesn't run across the bottom of the door but on Jack car it does.

My first though were the same as Jack's that it had rusted away (which is happening to my 48 car) and someone had changed it but when I looked closer on the 1950 car it clearly looks like it's not meant to be there. It's exactly the same on all doors and the car is very rust free.

There seems to be some differences here.....

My money is with Jack - I know I have had repair panels fitted. I think I will get some more of the rubber and glue it in position to the bottom of the door & join it to the portion of new stuff coming around the door. Jack, can you send me a picture of a front and a rear door to show me how far up the B pillar post side of the door to go?

Thanks

Could I get a copy of those photo's as well?

Thanks

Hello Gents,

I will happily send you pictures when the weather is a little more acceptable. With things as they presently are, I am loathe to lie beneath my car to snap the door seal. I will get back to you both soon - hopefully.
