the car lais on the side now. and i cut out the bad steel at the back
i think typical rust there
I found this here:

the lid is good
but the recess for the seals are rusty

i have a shrinker and a strecher and know how to work with it

someone knows what to do without panels from a supplier ?

in the past someone has made the lower edge on the back, not well done

the rear boot flor step i cut out today, was very rusty right side

someone a construction plan of ths part, i have a plasma cutter, so no Problem to cut it.

it must not have the right size ;-)

The rear panels used to be made by Sportscar Metalworks - see https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/links.shtml#Body_Panels. These were also retailed by NTG - https://mgbits.com but I have no idea if these are still available. If they are not, maybe Sportscar Metalworks may release the plans to us so we can publish them for people to make their own? I will ask NTG what is happening.

When I was doing my YA I found that the available rear panel was for a YB so spare wheel locker was larger and expensive, so I used similar tools to you, a metal folder and shrinker/stretcher then mig weld the fabricated bits to the body when the weld was smoothed I used lead loading to complete the finished repair. see photos!

NTG I believe do still sell lower rear panels and floors to order. You need to specify if you want YA/YT or YB (as YB has a wider Spare Wheel Compartment (SWC) lid when you order.

I believe you can also order still direct from Mick Beakhouse at Sportscar Metalworks for an SWC lid too but again need to specify if it is a YA/YT or YB when ordering.

Please inquire directly of both suppliers. Best way to contact them is directly by phone as certainly Mick Beakhouse used to be terrible about using eMail.

THX to all
@Stephen Randle
you take a 8 cm wide sheet metal ?
then fold it
and then use the shrinker and strecher step by step?
the strecther works perfekt
the shrinker not so
what kind of metal you use
0,8mm sheet metal
FT Franz

I do not have the spec of steel, it came from a car show the thickness could be 0.8 or 1.0mm it was 25 odd years ago when it was done.
the shrinker does need extra work by doing more squeezes to the centre edge to gather the material than the back edge.

Stephen Randle

Probably, you all know: when making up body sections of sheet metal you should use (what's called in German) "dekapiert" sheet metal. Google translates this into "pickled" sheet metal.

This material is especially suitable to be shaped by hammer and dolly or a shrinker. Just find out with your local supplier, what the correct name is :o)

Hello
the oart above in the picture doen with the strechter
you have to make in 2 steps and weld them.
tested with small parts yesterday.
Perhaps today i will make a bigger one
FT Franz

the sills are ready
the wheel arche ready too
the rear end bottom ready
now the first step at luggage compartment done
a template from thin wood
next stepp will be to cut out all the rusty parts in the back
and then decide what to do exactly
left side is ok i only seems to be different to the right side on the picture
when i make the new parts i will turn around the template to make both sides absolutly the same

FT Franz

first try with strecher and shrinker

FT Franz

firdst part from the back done

FT Franz

It looks good, you seem to have tackled it similar to me.

Heres how I repaired bottom of d
oors.

Stephen Randle

Hi
my doors are perfect ,-)

but the part between the boot and the wheel boot

where the wooden part lays and the boot hinge is fixed
this reinforcement

i hope you understand what part i mean

a difficult part to stretch and shrink,
but my tool is too small, so i weld me one, but i am waiting for the last part to finish it

all the same parts are rusty of this cars
in the back the water stands in the deepenings and can t run away.
my rear wings are rusty too, near the body, also the water problem.....
there i have a good idea to weld it
FT Franz

step by step for one rust free car

the last big step !

all other rust is small and easy cleaning

FT Franz

Wow - amazing!! Good work.

Ever thought of starting a side business supporting Y owners with this panel work? The current supplier though good is a bit erratic when it comes to supplying the goods. We need a second (or even a first) string to the bow here!!

Paul
Paul Barrow

what do you need ?
have all templates here ;-)

but first i have to finish my car ;-)
a lot of work still to do.

but if you need printed parts like spark plug holder oder CJR3 dummy case or so on, ask me,i love a challenge
FT Franz

Franz,

I was suggesting that maybe you might want to offer your metalworking services in making up the panels for the spare wheel compartment panels etc. as you have done an amazing job there.
