MG MG Y Type - YA Shocks
Is home renovation of these a practical proposition? I have one of the rear ones leaking at the seal between the lever arm & the body. Any info / likely snags would be appreciated. Thanks |

Tony, a year ago, I asked myself this very same question. I tried to undo one of my rear dampers. I broke tools without success. NTG and another British firm will rebuild your old ones but it might take a good long while. I finally opted for a conversion to tube shock absorbers and I'm very happy with that decision. Tony Check out World Wide Auto Parts Madison, WI www.nosimport.com They rebuild all types of lever shocks and all reports I have read give them high marks. I have had a rebuilt set on my GMGA that they did several years ago and am completely happy with them. HTH Larry 49 YT |

Tony Check out the Links page at www.mgytypes.org and look at the entry for Stevson Motors of Birmingham, UK. They will be able to sort you out. Paul |

'Demon Tweeks' did mine in 1981! They are still going I think and not far from you. They will do Y type shock absorbers - in 1981 all four cost me only £100 to be rebuilt. Happy days. |

Vintage & Classic Shock Absorbers in South Croydon rebuilt mine (both front & rear). They did an excellent job; contact details are also listed on the links page of the website. Good luck |

Thank you for that, gentlemen. All I have to do now is get them off the car!! David, its a long time since I've heard of Demon Tweeks. They are in Wrexham, not that far from here. Incidently, just browsing their website, they are advertising 'D' lamps at forty quid plus VAT. I think someone was looking for a supplier of these a few weeks back. Kind Regards TonyK |
