MG MG Y Type - YA / YT Pedal box & Padel Positioning
Dear all
I seem to remember, to having seen a drawing and discription of the pedal arrangement of a right hand drive YT / YA. I want to alter the position of the brake pedal, so it stands more upright (away from the fire wall), thus getting a more positive pedal travel feeling - I had the master cylinder re-sleeved and changed all rubber seals of the brake system. I have checked in vain the workshop manual and "Let there be Ys"... At the same time, I want to replace the pedal return spring which seems to be a "finger braking" job! Regards Anton |

Have fun with the brake return spring.
Why do you want "more pedal travel"? If you are feeling you do not have enough leverage on the pedal I would question if you have the plunger on the master cylinder correctly adjusted to allow it to move appropriately. After a rebuild this will have to be checked and adjusted per the directions in the Workshop Manual Anton. Once you have the throw/length corrected the original pedal position will give you ample leverage and you will not need to have the pedal more upright. Paul |

Anton, see the thread "Correct angle of brake pedal" in Y archives - the information referred to helped me resolve the same issue a few years ago. John. |

John & Paul
John: how do I get to "Correct angle of brake pedal". Please let me know the year when the article was published? Or better still let me have the complete path to get there! Please advise - the angle is exactly what I am looking for :o) Paul: I was not clear when saying I look for more pedal travel. The pedal traveland the adjustment of the pedal is OK. I just want to alter the angle. so the braking action takes place a bit further away from the fire wall. The pedals where fitted years back to the bare chassis, without the master cylinder being fitted - just at a guess... Thank you two Anton |

John I found the "correct angle" article in the archive section. Of special interest was the mention of "the large round opening, found at the bottom of later style pedal boxes of CDs and all TFs. This will make life easier when changing the return spring as well. Thank's again Anton |

Happy to help, Anton - I have long enjoyed drooling over your own YT photos! We need to retrospectively thank Jeffrey Delk for his inspiring article. John. |

Hi Anton, To add to the conversation, the clutch and brake pedals on my YT are at the same angle which is essentially perpendicular to the floor. Regards, Ewan

Hi Anton Have you downloaded the MGCCY data sheet yet from our page https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/bookreview.shtml#Data_Sheets_and_Other_Publications? Look for Y Sheet 5 - The pedal box assembly by Neil Cairns. This should solve your issue. Paul |

Paul Thank you for letting me have the link to pedal box paradise. Y Sheet 5 of Neil Cairns answers all my questions. I will alter the pedal position by one ratchet. Winter can come :o) Regards from Switzerland Anton ![]() |
