MG MG Y Type - YB propshaft
Can you help please, Is the prop shaft of a YA the same as a YB? I may be able to meet the need of another Y owner if so. Thanks. Bob |

The YA and YB have totally different axles so it is unlikely the propshaft will fit. |

Thanks for info. Obliged, Bob |

David is correct about the rear axles ... but I think the drive shaft is the same. I have a Y/YT one off a car and on the shelf if someone can measure a YB one (length of shaft, including and excluding lugs for UJs) and diameter of shaft. The UJs are common for all Ys front and rear. Paul |

Hi, If the propshaft does not fit the YB please let me know. I would need one for my YT and believe they are the same. If you are willing to post to Austria. Thanks & Regards, Dishna |

The Y workshop manual lists the face to face length as 46,3/4 inches I once had a YB manual and it listed the length. Perhaps someone with a YB manual could supply the length as it is different in lenght to the Y. I istalled a Wolsely 444 (nuffield hypoid diff YB, TD, TF) with a 4.8:1 CW/P,the propshaft is shorter than the Y. I had a magnette propshaft cut down and balanced to suit. Wayne Routley. Also I think from memory, the face to face measurement is with the sliding spline closed. |

YB face to face Prop shaft is listed as 45 5/16th in 1.151m A bit shorter I am afraid Peter |

Thanks for the dimension guys I am happy to have learned something there! I still have a YA/YT propshaft on my shelf if this is of use. Paul |

Hello Dishna, I have a spare YA propshaft, too. I guess shipping from Holland to Austria is cheaper than from the USA? I've sent you an email. Willem |
