MG MG Y Type - YB UMG 662 for sale

One to watch. The Gregor / Grant 1954 Monte Carlo Rally MG YB is for sale by auction on Wednesday 3rd December by H and H Auctions at Dritwich Spa. Interesting to see what this car can achieve but the provenance may well influence the price. This car YB 0480 competed in the 1954 Monte but was disqualified due to time penalties.

in 2011 Paul Pennell loaned us this car to display in the Marquee at Silverstone. She attracted a lot off attention as the theme was competition MGs.

Its a nice car - I remember thinking about buying it when it was last up for sale. I was put off by the Sierra box and (I think) replacement engine. The former makes it a better drive but paradoxically menas its not eligible for most historic rallies and races. And the cost of changing the box back made the whole thing uneconomic.

I bought it unseen. If its in the same condition as it was when I last saw it then I think I have got good value for money. Apparently it comes with the standard gear box so I will swap out the Sierra box. I intend to use UMG 662 for historic rallying. That will allow me to set up UHK 111 exclusively for speed events. At the moment I have used UJK 111 for both (road) rallying and speed events and its not been the best compromise. UMG 662 should be delivered to Sports and Classics in Essex today or tomorrow for a helath check and a bit of fettling. I will see it later in the week.

Congratulations Marc - always good to have another Y in the stable! Please can I ask you to update the database for me when you take delivery of it (www.mg-cars.org.uk/imgytr/registeryoury.shtml) and you can use the same form to update Ys on Parade too.
