MG MG Y Type - Ydiff overhaul

Last October I gave Heathrow Transmissions who advertise in Safety Fast my YA diff which they promised to overhaul and return to me in a fortnight, some telephone calls later, last Friday I was told that they were waiting for an oil seal and that it would take another two weeks. [NTG have these oil seals on the shelf]. I therefore requested its return, and this is what I received [image], at no time was it made clear that it was dismantled only that it had been cleaned. Heathrow Transmission charged me £83.50 plus £17.50 P&P total £100. Now I need to find a reliable workshop to re assemble it.

If you paid by credit card you can claim the costs back from the credit card company under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act...if you need any info let me know.

Thanks for your support, just at the moment I dont want to dig myself into a legal hole as Heathrow Transmissions will undoubtedly contest what was said. This event is just as it is. I think all the parts except a bearing roller are there but it is now in an unusable condition and parts will need to be replaced. Just take care with this company, by the way I paid them £82.50 plus P&P. Its all part of modern life! Bryan

I know it will cost you and arm ana a leg to ship it but try Saunders motor works , southampton rd , cadnam , SO40 2NB , 02380 8121101 in the UK. They were excellent when I lived there. If you have the Y Workshop Manual on CD there is an entire section in there that covers Differential Assembly. You can print off the pages and send them with the diff.

Call them before you send them anything.

Let me know how you get on with them and if they come through we can add them on the list of vendor links if they make you happy.

NTG advised me to contact Classic and Sports cars of Essex who when I contacted them assured me they would undertake the diff re assembly. They have in the past re sleeved a 53 TF engine of mine so I have some confidence in them. Heathrow Transmission however I look upon as untrustworthy and perhaps incompetent, but at least I did have the parts returned. [I hope]
