MG MG Y Type - Ys in books

I have just borrowed the following book from my local library, Norfolk Villages by Elizabeth Purdy (ISBN1-85937-649-5). It contains nostalgic photographs, mainly from the 1950s, of village life. One such 'photo of Burnham Market, Norfolk UK shows the rear view of a Y parked at the side of the road. The vehicle registration is unclear but with the aid of a magnifing glass it seems to be UMG 864 (numbers very blurred). Are you out there? Peter

Peter

I checked the DVLA website and UMG 864 is not registered with them. This means it has either been exported and still lives on ... but not in that guise, or sadly it may have been scrapped.

At an outside chance it may also have missed the boat of computerization (in the 1970s?) and still be sat in a barn somewhere.

Can you scan a copy of the page and post it for us?

Hello Paul, referrence your request for the scanned image of UMG 864? sadly I am unable to oblige as I returned the book to the library today, sorry, regards Peter

I have bought a copy of this book - as soon as I get it I will scan the page for you Paul.
It might be worth checking John Lawson's list to see if its one he recorded.

Great David - look forward to seeing a copy of the picture in due course!

I have had a close look at the book [1955 photograph taken in Burnham Market in Norfolk]and I read the licence plate as definetly UMG 186 or possibly 184. UMG 186 still exists and is a black 1950 YA which fits with the monotone dark colour in the photograph. A high quality original photo exists in the Francis Frith collection under photo no B400005 which we may be able to order. Paul, I have sent you the best scan I can obtain and a close up of the car.

David, I think you mean no B500004 on http://www.francisfrith.com/burnham-market/photos/1/

I may be seeing Y's, but is the car on the right on B500003 the same car?
Willem vd Veer

Could be ....I think if someone gets the original photo the registration number should be clearly visible.
