MG MG Y Type - YT Carburettor Jet Needles
My YT has been running rich ever since I purchased it many years ago. I note that needle size on my carbs is ES, which according to theSU data sheet is suitable for the TC & TD. I would appreciate any advice on the correct needle size to get a weaker mixture. (Size AP?). I note the YA & YB have different needle sizes My carbs were reconditioned by Burlen some years ago. Many thanks Anil Koshti |

In our YT, I use the "lean" YT needle & mount it around 0.020" below the dashpot face. Every engine is different - you will need to experiment a little unless you get it setup on a rolling road. Cheers Tony Slattery Black Mountain Australia |

Many thanks Tony. I shall get the weaker needle and experiment before using Colortune to check whether it is running ok. Best wishes Anil |

Keep in mind the Colortune will only tell you the mixture at idle, only a gas meter will indicate mixture while on a rolling road or actually driving at various RPM. Tony |

Many thanks for your help Tony & Paul. I have ordered the weaker needles AP and will try them out as soon as they arrive. Will check plug colours when driven over a few miles. Best wishes Anil Koshti Devon, UK |
