MG MG Y Type - YT in centre spread of Enjoying MG

I was delighted to receive the January 2018 issue of Enjoying MG - the MG Owners house magazine. This featured our YT and an article by Malcolm Green a regular contributor to MGOC.

I met Malcolm at Silverstone last June and he asked me if he could put together an article and photo shoot of the YT. This he duly did and visited me in early July. I sent him some background about YTs in general and this car in particular.

The photos were taken in Mill Street Warwick UK below the towering Warwick Castle. One of the UKs most popular tourist spots.

Cheers from a wet Midlands

Great photos Jerry, I'm sure that you were indeed delighted. Not being a member of the MGOC, I couldn't take a sneaky peek online. The website would only allow me access to the editor's MGB GT, although it did let me into The Goodwood Revival page. I'm in The Transport Corps at Goodwood, ferrying VIP's around in my YB.

Despite my lack of membership, my YB appeared on the front page of The German Owner's Club Magazine, MG Kurier last April. It was quite a shock at first but then I felt honoured. The photo was taken when the car was on Poole Quay in 2014, the 70th anniversary of D-Day. One of the organisers phoned me to ask if I would bring it along. I explained that the car wasn't built until 1952 but he was well versed and knew that the design had started well before the war, and that was good enough.

Now hand on heart, I didn't see this, but when the young lady walked off after the photo shoot was finished, the sunshine must have shone through her dress. My wife saw that she was wearing modern day, thong knickers, I promise I didn't look, but the reason that I know is because my missus said: "They didn't wear cheese cutters in the 1940's.

I would highly recommend membership of the MGOC. The magazine Enjoying MG is worth the subscription on its own! Appearance of the MG Y is not too often ... but that is probably down to a lack of submitted material more than anything else!

As with all their articles though, it will be added to Reprinted Articles in due course.

Thanks Robert

You are remarkably honest about your photographer! I'll say no more.
As Paul mentioned MGOC is an excellent magazine and if someone is seeking particular knowledge about a Y or pre 55 magazine then their default position is to refer it to MG Octagon CC.

Cheers

I know how you felt Robert On two occasions a club magazine has dropped on my door mat and I have been nicely surprised and then felt honored to see my YT on the front cover. You must let us into the secret of how you get these lovely models to pose on your car in period dress even if it is not quite accurate.
Nice picture Jerry, I have a friend who always passes on his Enjoying MG when he has finished it, if it includes any Y content. I look forward to seeing it.

Just received and read the article. An excellent very informative 9 pages. I would think that has put a couple of gran on the price of a YT.

It must be something to do with car Peter, I can honestly say, hand on heart, it's not the driver. Here's yet another link to see what shenanigans the car has got up to.

Following the gallery you will come across the photo in question. You will also see the motivation that prompted these ladies to do something a tad risque to raise funds for cancer research. But if it's a bit of a faff, you can just click on the picture:
