MG MG Y Type - YT owners rejoice!

I see a 1949 YT is on ebay at $58,000 - and that at the quoted bid "Reserve is not yet met". I can't wait to tell Arlene that my purchase in 2000 is now a valuable asset ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MG-YT-Tourer-1949-MG-Convertible_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem3a4e72ad90QQitemZ250424241552QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks

Shame the owner didnt do his home work as we have at least 20 LHD YTs on Ys on Parade alone (18 EXUs and 2 EXLs). Also I see he is still quoting the old 877 figure!

Just looking at the detailed photos and that filler cap is awful, not to mention the slab dash, before I mention the after market valve cover is on back to front, that said, nice job on the bonnet catch.

I am an optomist ... but $58k!!! Good luck, one to watch certainly.

Outboard tail lights look like a non-stock addition. I was under the impression that only the EXU version had the TC type tail lights faired into the rear fenders. These look too long, and the original lens is flat. The listing gives an EU designation.

You are correct in that only EXUs had the tail lights flared into the rear fenders. 2106 is actually an EXU (see David Pelham's YT Factory Record listings) its just one of the (many) minor problems on this listing concerning attention to detail that it was listed as YT/EU/2106 - MG certainly didnt make a YT for the European Union - LOL :-)

But this one is much shinier than yours !

I cannot believe that anyone in their right minds would pay $58k for a YT. That's about £30k?
It's not as even it's complete. The dash panel looks as if it's been lifted from a kit car, the steering wheel, fog lamps and so on and so are all incorrect.

However, as Paul has noted about optimism and good luck.. it needs to be watched. If it does go for a v.high price Andrew you'll be able to fund all of us on the Yorkshire Run!

On an entirely different matter - did any Y owners attend the Octagon Founders Weekend at Ironbridge over the weekend. The weather was dreadful where we were staying and that was only 30 miles away.

We were very, very fortunate with the weather last w/kend! Makes a change.

Looks like the rejoicing should be limited, at least for now, as no-one was tempted at that price. And no sign of a re-listing yet...

This gallery is just a few minutes from my house, so I decided to pay a visit.

Although it was restored with little or no consideration for originality, it is nonetheless a very handsome car.

BUT - as far as the price goes, $58K is apparently a bargain.

In the showroom, the price is listed at $64.9K!

Cheers,

Hi Mark

Will be in NOrthern CT Tuesday apparently with Scott Barrow. Just looking again at the latest round on eBay for this car with <24hrs to go (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250434775160&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=) and noticed that it doesnt even have the Jackalls restored/refitted either. So much for "The restoration was done by Hyannis Restoration a world renown shop known for its many Pebble Beach entry’s’. The car was restored with an eye towards originality, SAFETY and drivability"!

Hi Paul,

having not been on this site for a few months I was quite amused by this thread!

Does anyone know if this YT found a new owner?
I see it got re-listed at $45.000 US.

Regarding their quote "The restoration .............originality SAFETY and drivability" I think all of us should be very aware of so called "world renown shops" some times appear to have very warped idea's especially regarding originality - as you've mentioned the Jackalls - also rear over-riders & windscreen wiper motor! the awfull wood dash & incorrect instruments & missing instrument panel - yuk! As Jerry mentioned in previous thread the whole thing is more inclined to a "Kit Car"

Is the car on YT's on parade or the car's details known to the Y register?

many thanks for your excellent effort regarding the Y website it really is a gem!

Hi Ron

Welcome back. You shouldnt be away so long!

The car is not currently on Ys on Parade and despite everything that has been done to it, it is still a Y so I would welcome it onto the Parade if a new owner would like to file an application. If the new owner would then like help to undo some of the more stupid things that have been done to it, I will be delighted to assist him in whatever I can.

I believe the car is known to the Registrar, but I cannot confirm that as only Jack has access to the records.

Dont be a stranger!

Ys forever,

Paul
