MG MG Y Type - YT rear seat base
Hi all As my YT does not have original seats, I am trying to determine if I could modify my rear seat base to conform with a YT seat. My seat base has curved front corners and a cut-out over the rear diff. Can someone please take a couple of photos of their YT rear seat showing the front corners (and underneath frame) and the seat cushion base as a whole (out of car). I have been through my numerous photos but none show these areas. thank you Stuart |

I will try to get some on here tomorrow for you Stuart. Meanwhile do you have access to a copy of Let there be Ys? If so there is a good section in there to read while you wait for me to get home and take some pictures. Paul |

Yes, I have a CD copy of LTBYs and have read the section on seats a number of times. Off topic - I went to visit a fellow Y owner here on the Gold Coast who is restoring a Y, now 2 tone Maroon and white. He has organised for his seats to be re-upholstered by a retired Upholsterer for $1500 Aus, with him supplying material. Sample work looks good. Stuart |

Does this work for you? A = 41 inches B = 4 1/2 inches C = 22 inches D = 1 3/4 inches E = 16.5 inches F = 6 inches I am not a professional upholsterer so measurements are approximate and should be scaled so that the seat back fits the gap! Paul ![]() |

Does this work for you? G = 20 1/2inches H = 4 1/2 inches All other measurements are similar to the Seat Back above. I am not a professional upholsterer so measurements are approximate and should be scaled so that the seat back fits the gap! Paul ![]() |

Paul, thank you very much for the photos and measurements. Just wondering is the rear of the seat base straight or indented in the middle where is sits over the diff. Stuart |

Stuart I will forward 3 fotots, regarding the "making of" the Innards of the rear spring cushion. I was partially using the springs of a YA/YB rear seat cushion and made up the top and bottom frames, using edge wire. Cheers Anton Piller, YT 4220 ![]() |
