MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - airbag warning

On my ZT260 I have experienced one recurring fault, that of the airbag warning light coming on. It's been fixed twice by the MG Rover dealer, but after a couple of months this glitch has returned. Anyone else experienced this, and found a permanent solution?

This problem occurs on most of the MG models. The normal cause is the connectors under the front seats. I had this problem earlier in the year - it had been caused by a pine cone that had rolled under the driver's seat!

I have had this on my ZT260 - if you reach under the drivers seat there is a connector - I just gave mine a squeeze to push the halfs together and a wobble and has been fine since.

I did this with the ignition off.

Yeah same thing on mine
very annoying!
Grrrrr

I suspect that it is from the passenger seat on mine though

just wiggle the wires!

Hi Guys: Permanent Fix - Disconect both yellow plugs that you will find under each fron seat, and spray the connectors with WD40. Plug in and unplug several times to distribute the fluid. Plug in securely and your problems are solved.

I've read elsewhere that WD40 isn't a permanent fix. One owner has found it lasts about two to three months.
Strangely, I have never had this on my ZT even though taller people get in the passenger seat and shove it backwards.

This prblem occurs on mine once in a while when my wife uses the car, and pushes the seat forward to reach the pedals. I simply turn off the ignition (important to reset the SRS check process), disconnect the plug under seat, re-connect it, and then turn on ignition. If SRS light stays on, repeat the procedure.

Really appreciate the advice guys - I'll give the suggested fixes a go and let you know how i get on!
Many thanks again, Ted

You may be right, Martin, but permanence is relative. I had an ongoing battle with the warning light that the dealer tried numerous times to fix. His longest fix lasted about three days. The WD40 has lasted me about six months so far, and if I have to reapply every six months, that's OK by me...! :-)
