MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Central locking
We have a 54reg ZR 1.4, when the handset is operated to lock/unlock the car there is an excessive chatting noise in the central locking system. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this. Also when the car is being driven the boot lock mechanism seems to be making the locking noise every couple of mins. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

This is the door lock motor - a very common failure point on superlocking ZRs. I believe that these locks are still on back order with XPart. Ralph |

As an aside to this thread, is it common to lock/unlock with the remote control held virtually at the window? I have one of the last ZR's built (Nov 2005). Most modern cars with remotes can be activated from several metres away, but not this baby! If there is a problem, what would it be (batteries have been changed). Thanks Gary, Australia |

Its a standard 'feature' of all the MGs that they can only be unlocked from very close to the car. |

Hi there, I also have a 54 Reg ZR and have just started experiencing this problem with my central locking (the noise is coming from the passenger side). If I take my car to any motor mechanic will they be able to get the parts to fix it...is it very expensive to rectify do you know? Any help gratefully received. Thanks |

Just checked with our supplier - door lock motors are still on back order with no anticipated delivery date :( The normal failure point on these motors is the pinion point for the super locking gear. It may be possible to repair this by replacing it with a screw, or similar. |
