MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Dealers Cashing In???

Just had a valuation for a trade in from a local SW Group Dealership. Now 4 weeks ago another dealer offered me £6,500 for my 02 ZS180 with 25k on the clock. 6 CD changer ,fogs etc. Today a different (MG/Rover) dealership has offered me £3,000.

Does anybody else think someone is taking the P.

Kevin

Nope - not cashing in, just being realistic as residual values will have plummeted as few people are now rushing out to buy MGR!
Ted Newman

Ted, What has changed? With the exception of a few months left on the original MG/Rover warranty. Any deealer will sell a used car with a warranty added in, the parts should not be an issue as Rover parts were sold off by Rover and not part of the administration.
Under EEC law, parts must be made available for 8 years after the death of the model, although how this applies in this case I dont know.
I just find it hard to accept that the ZS can drop another £3,500 in just over 4 weeks. Still at £3000 there are bound to be plenty of Boy Racers queing up for them.
Kevin

Kevin - how many buyers are there out there wanting to buy the product of a 'dead' manufacturer - even the EU can't make a corpse produce offspring!

I too own an MGR car and I too don't want residuals to crash BUT it is a fact that they have - just have a look at what is now being offered - brand new cars at well below list price and even below used car prices SO who is going to pay top whack for a used car when for less they can buy brand new?
Ted Newman

'course they're bl..dy cashing in - you're not talking about a 'new' ZS, it's secondhand! Do you honestly believe if the dealer who offered 3 grand got the car he would have it on his forecourt at the norm grand profit ie around 4 grand? Don't be bl..dy stupid, a low miler 25k!!! it would be on the forecourt at absolute minimum of 5,999 or more prob 6,999 or even more despite what has happened.
montego bay

montego bay - please do not call people 'bloody stupid' just because you do not agree with their point of view - in fact the 'bloody stupid' person is the one that can not conduct a polite and reasoned discussion without resorting to insulting the other person/people.

That said residual values on MGR products have plummeted and dealers (MGR) are selling brand new cars at well below list price SO please tell me what do you buy a brand new car or a second hand one at the same price?

It is a sad fact that this is happening but these dealers - many of whom will have lost thousands of pounds in the MGR crash - are trying to recoup some of their capital to enable them to continue trading and employing people - that is what being in business is all about.

We have a 'two outlet' dealership near to us that has just spent untold thousands on re-equipping and training staff to become an MGR dealer - I hope he can find another manufacturer to grant him a franchise, but looking around the area I doubt it, unless of course Lada or Wartburg are going to make a come back!
Ted Newman

Now the Car has bitten me back. Just joining the M5 this afternoon and the clutch went. Time for a large beer and a few Scotches tonight.
Kevin

Kevin I am afraid in this wonderful world Ted lives in, for everyone who makes a few quid buying and selling, naturally someone has to lose the same amount. Normally this goes largely unoticed, but on this occassion it is obvious you are sat holding the baby.
Ruthless business men or city traders at this point generally take the hit and move on in the hope that the next time they will be the one winning on the deal at some other poor wretches downfall.

Bob

When and where have I said it is a wonderful world? I have merely said that it is a fact of life!

In the world you aspire to (and I have lived and worked in it pre 1989) you did not have to worry about such things as motor car depreciation as you did not have one to depreciate! OR if you did you got a Lada or Trabant after a 10 year wait which you were not allowed to sell unless back to the state at the price they offered which makes our system look positively generous - so please Bob no lectures from Cheque Book Socialists!
Ted Newman

Ted why would I aspire to live in Russia???
Ted the world I aspire to live in is one that is fair and actually delivers what it promises, A god life for all.

We are at last finding very common ground, the way our country functions is terrible, totally unfair and rewards people who make a quick buck and does not reward those individuals who actually create wealth.

We also agree that Russian style of Socialism is also flawed by greedy individuals at the top and a host of other reasons.

I am sure we could find a far better way to do things if we opened our minds and looked for solutions. Problem is of course that those people in parliament and those that control the press do not want us to look, they are doing very nicely thank you!
Bob (robert)

Actually Bob you didn't have to go as far as Russia - I was referring to the good old DDR - German Democratic Republic - not that there was very much democracy around - you had a vote for candidate A or candidate B but they were both the same political party, they had to be! there was only one.

And as for Utopia - if you find it let me know:-)
