MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Driven ZS180 3 car shootout - Channel Four 2nite - Oh, the suspense is bearable!

Step right up folks see for your self. Channel 4 on your dial. Will the ZS180 trail in a poor and distant third in this 3 car shootout? After all, it's up against such superior alien product such as Skoda (who?). See it compared to the SEAT.... or, not. (What a crappy name - might just as well call it a stool! (What's a pun Dad?).

ooooH! The suspenders are hardly bearable. Well, at least "Tiffany Dell" wont get a look in!

Be there or ........ or, not..... :o))

But you can also read the individual road test beforehand on www.4car.co.uk
-seems quite fair for the MG, but how the hell do they choose the others as its main competitors ?!

I'm off to Holby on BBC1 instead, I think. Those nurses, especially that Sister, are a lot better looking and make a more seductive sound than either of those identical VAG drones.

"might just as well call it a stool"

Particularly as 'stool' is a medical term for a turd.

"but how the hell do they choose the others as its main competitors "

180BHP?

Quite interesting that the only way the Skoda could catch up with the MG was because of its superior performance in a multi-storey car-park and slightly cheaper running costs - in a performance car. That and her 'casting vote' that managed to get the Skoda with two votes the same desirability rating as the Seat with four women and one old man.

Heavy clutch? Wimps - they wanna drive a factory V8 every day.

Put yourselves in the programme presenters position. What would you do? Lets just for the sake of discussion say that one of these three cars was superior to the others by a WIDE margin. Or, that another was much inferior to the others. Have you ever known ANY "consumer" programme tell it like it really is, or was. No chance. Their scoring system was VERY subjective and the final result for these three cars was VERY close. Ever wonder why? Were these cars really so closely matched? What's manipulation mean Dad?

I wonder how many non-enthusiasts motorists ( the majority ) watching the programme realised that any of these three cars actually had a SIX cylinder engine. Was this feature highlighted or given sufficient emphasis? I do remember some mention of turbo four cylinders. Few clues for Joe ( and Josephine) Punter there. Many would see six cylinders as a strong plus point. It would also explain why the "cost per mile" ( again very subjective) for the MG appeared slightly inferior. An added expense maybe, but balanced against six cylinders surely a more attractive proposition for many potential buyers.

However, the clues were REALLY there if you watched and listened closely. Jason Plato's obvious enthusiasm for the MG was demonstrated time and again. I got the impression he was bursting to say more but showed much restraint. If the track footage of the three cars on their "timed" laps can be believed as genuine and not a chain of edited disjointed snippets, then it showed that at least one of the cars was NOT lapped to full advantage. I wonder if only 2 seconds would cover all three cars with Jason Plato solo and really trying in all three? Not for nothing is this Guy now British Touring Car Champion.

The attractive but vociferous brunette "punter" who thought the MG had UGLY seats ( seats for crissakes!) was a hoot! Like to meet her and find out if she did not like the colour of the engine oil too! .... :o))

However, such people actually do buy cars .... great stuff!

>>>I got the impression he was bursting to say more but showed much restraint<<<

Perhaps having seen the tail end of EX259 a couple of times already in the last couple of rounds of the BTCC, he knows the potential and can see a quite reasonable way of retaining his title??
