MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Fitting a Car Club Badge to the front of a ZT

Have just been told by the local MG dealer that you cannot fit badges to the front of the ZT because it violates some daft EU directive. This has now made me more determined than ever to fit my old car club badge to the grille of the ZT. Does any one know how this can be done please? There is one hell of a bulkhead at the front with the radiator pushed up right against it so you cannot get to the back of the grille. There has to be a way / fixing kit I can use please.

Thanks

Paul

Paul, don't kknow which club but I beleive the MGOC do a badge for 'modern' grills that 'clicks' into place without needing rear access.

Sorry to be so technical on a Saturday afternoon but it's all from memory.

Failing that it looks like a 'quick' radiator removal job before church on Sunday.

Good Luck

Paul have a look at this (if it works)

I have an MG Car Club badge that fits the grille of ZS and I know Roger Parker has the MGOC badge on the front of his!
The EU directive story is b*ll*cks. On the ZS its fairly east to fit as the 'MG nose' lifts with the bonnet. In the case of ZT its fixed - you must be able to remove this to then get behind it?

Paul, you say 'car club' so I assume MGOC is of little interest to you ! What you need is at

Thanks everyone for your help.

Kelvin, I think I may have sent you off on a tangent, the directive is concerning the crumplability of the front of the car and its energy absorbtion capabilities. The badge would compromise that. Also, with over 18 years of MG ownership and 25 years doing most of my own maintenance on all my cars from a Triumph 1500 to a Rover Sterling, I think I know a difficult job when I see one. Not only does the grille on the ZT not lift up, it is a composite moulding with the whole front of the car. Behind it is a bulkhead to which the whole cooling system of the 2.5 litre engine is attached with about enough room for a Rizzler paper between it and the engine. Attachment will have to be some clever mechanism through the front. Have a close look nexttime you get the opportunity at a ZT-T 180/ZT 190 - you'll be surprised.

Will look at the site suggestions too. Oh for the record it was a bolt on MGCC badge.

Thanks again everyone.

Still think its b*ll*cks, about directive, badge such as MGCC or MGOC would not make the slightest bit of difference to a crumple zone!

Paul, the MGCC FWD Register has developed a new version of that badge, with butterfly-type fixings to overcome just the very problem that you are describing. Just follow the 'enquiries' info.
BTW - are you able to quote a reference (preferably on-net) to the EC directive concerning crumple zones and additional badges? TIA
David

The Z register has it own new badge design, not sure when it will go into production!
I suspect it will have similar fixing to those made availble by CarClub and Martin Woods

Seems odd that the AA and RAC have had grill badges for years. I don't think that they would openly sell anything that flounted the law.

I have a MGOC members badge on the front of ny zt as supplied for MGF's, and this fits just fine!

It may be so that a car manufacturer cannot fix a rigid badge on the front of his car at the factory, but as long as the badge in question is not effectively an offensive weapon - i.e. a spike - then I cannot see there being a problem with you as the owner fixing your own badge to your own car.

MGCC shield shaped badges are available exclusively from the FWD register for all MG Z saloons. The new design buterfly fixing means it will accomodate ZR's and anyone else who can't get to the back of the grill to tighten up a conventional nut and bolt fixing.
They are £15 plus £1 p&p.
