MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - GB Plates needed question.

Mrs JMcF is taking both sons and her Mum for a 'sur la continent' trip on Tuesday in the MG ZS. Well, France anyway. Are those oval white 'GB' signs still necessary on the car? ... don't see many of those of late so perhaps no longer necesary.

Cheers,

I believe they're still legally required, but then again I don't see too many foreign visitor's cars sporting these either.
Don't forget that first aid kit and spare bulb set are mandatory, and make sure insurance/recovery policy is up-to-date.
If I don't plan on driving at night I don't bother with the h/l deflectors either. In fact I don't bother at all come to think of it.....I just set the lights to their lowest position.

Martin.

do you still need the warning triangle - or are hazard warning lights considered sufficient these days?

Do they specify what needs to be put in the first aid kit?

You don't need the GB plate in France (or other EC Country)if you have the terrible ring of stars and GB on the car's numberplate.

Only the warning triangle and adjusted headlinghts are compulsory in France. The first aid and spare bulb nonsense only applies in countries like Greece and Bulgaria. I assume lady wife will not be driving that far!
Patrick Beet

Wrong patrick, sorry ...

Triangle is not mandatory in France and first aid kit neither... The only required thing is spare bulbs...

But you're true when saying that GB on the plate number is enough... As all around EC (isn't great the europ things ;))...

So no stikers and only spare bulbs

According to the The AA, Patrick is correct. Only warning triangle and light adjuster compulsory -

David Clelland

which just shows how hopelessly inaccurate the AA are...
David S

Sorry David, but as a french guy, I think I know what is mandatory and what is not mandatory in France...

for the triangle (official site) :

http://www.securite-routiere.equipement.gouv.fr/infos-ref/vehicule/faq/index.html#faq9

If you're vehicule is less than 3T5, and have hazard light you don't have to have triangle. If you've got a truck or NO hazard light triangle is mandatory... An MG Z or F have Hazard light so no triangle needed...

For the conversion, nobody will check but politness versus other will be good...

For spare bulb, I can confirm you that it's better to have one box. Indeed, it's not mandatory, but If you get caught with a broken light (including direction light, and stop light) police man will ask you to change it now... If you can't the vehicule will be immobilized and you will have to go by foot buy a bulb and you will get fined 35€ (Friday I've got a boken stop light and got spare bulb same my purse and my foot)...

Driven across Europe loads of time without GB sticker, but we got stopped in Italy by dangerous looking copper on motorbike bike with large gun and hard shades.

He looked over the car sussed that we were Brits
and said "ok you can go... just get a GB sticker!"
So I got one from Whitbread beer of all people, a promotional thing, It is see-though so no hideous white blob on the back just a body coloured subtle GB about 2 ins across
job done!
