MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Gearbox Whine. Normal?
My ZS180 has a high pitch whine at 3.500 revs. Is this normal?? Also when I floor it I seem to have more power kicking in at 3000 revs. Again is this normal,or is it connected to the engine sometimes sounding like a bag of bones rattling under the bonnet? Jeff |

Cheers Rover tried to tell me the gearbox on all ZS180's are noisy. |

gearbox shouldn't whine most of the power comes in at 3500- 4000 rpm and above, this is because the other 12 valves open. they dont open below that to help make your car more efficient similar to a honda vtec engine |

My ZS120 has a whine in reverse, but I know most cars whine in reverse. While I am reversing the noise is high pitched, and when i lift off the throttle the noise er... "bounces"? If I could put the noise in words... whrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (lift off) wh, wh.wh.wh, whrrrrrr. Now I have definately lost it :o/ I shall endeavour to record the noise on my phone and paste a link here. I suppose I also have a very slight whine while driving forward. My car is still under warranty, and is actually going for its first MOT tomorrow. I will speak to them about it then. Another niggle is when ever I accelerate and brake the drivers door creaks or knocks. It always sounds like the door is half open or something. I think it is probably something lose inside the door panel. Again, I will speak to them about this at MOT. I still have about 3-4 months of warranty left. |
