MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - getting hold of official ZR accessories
Does anyone know if there's a quicker way of getting hold of official ZR accessories other than via the dealer network. The inside plastic moulding on the driver's door of my ZR was badly scratched on pick-up from the dealer which showed poor PDI at SGL Preston. Allegedly, they have had a new one on order since day 2 of my ownership of the vehicle which is now over 6 weeks old. In addition, around the two week mark, I asked them to order me the official exhaust heatshield (as standard on the ZR160) and again this sub £5 accessory is nowhere to be seen. I am aware that MGR have switched to Caterpillar for supply of parts and accessories but surely the wait I am experiencing is ridiculous, is it not? If anyone can recommend an alternative source, I would be very appreciative. I realise the door moulding will probably have to come from SGL Preston as a result of their failed PDI but if I can get the exhaust heatshield quicker, I'd be well pleased. By the way, the side skirts I ordered came in rather promptly and were fitted quickly. Could there be a connection between cost and dealers' efficiency in getting parts?!!! |

Findlay, Try Browns and Horners in Manchester. I've had a gearknob on order at SGL since last August... When I was collecting my TF today I checked status - no hope! Had a chat with spares sales and he showed me 12 pages of back orders. He said they've resorted to robbing new cars in the compound for some vital spares (running gear stuff) for warranty jobs on customer cars. Situation is clearly pretty bad. I 'offered' to ring MGR customer service and he offered me the number. He also said they get their spares from Lex rather than direct from factory so I would ring round or ask MGR to! Suggesting a call to Auto Express etc might help MGR respond - the factory have these bits they're making cars. |

The guy at SGL told me that very little in the way of spares are coming through at the moment. I have had the CD brackets for my ZR160 on order since January. It is pretty disappointing. Come on MGR get you act together ! |

At least be now know why they are called "caterpillar". Such refreshing corporate honesty after Enron! Cheers Patrick |

Findlay, I gather that the exhaust finisher does not come complete with the fixings (those allen-head bolts). No one, from what I can gather, knows if this has a separate part number, or is even available at all! I think you'll have to start searching for alternative method of fixing this part to the bumper - when it eventually arrives ofcourse :o( Getting hold of certain TF bits is also proving to be a tad difficult too... grrr! >:o( |

Same story at my dealer Gledhills of Ossett - they say that its been hell for 6 weeks as they move from Unipart to Caterpillar - a lot of the product codes for the parts are also changing - why ??? |

You think waiting for door mouldings and exhaust finishers is frustrating?!?!? Imagine having to wait for a head gasket for my F now the sun is out! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh! |
