MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Help with RATTLE!!!!

Hi gang

I've got a ZS120+ and its recently developed a REALLY REALLY annoying rattle. It sounds like its coming from erm, how do I describe this, erm.... OK, where the handbrake is, there is a switch for the passenger side window, well it sounds like the rattle is on the opposite side where it is blanked off!

1) Any idea what is can be, its really starting to distract me.
2) Can I easily remove the centre thing and thrash the offending rattler?
3) Does anyone want to do this little job this for me?!! I dont wanna drive 20miles to the dealer!

Any help appreciated.

Other than that, I love the car!

Phil
Phil Palmer

Sorry to hear this Phil
Just for the record who is your (unhelpful) dealer.
By the way, was that you in tesco's car park (Formby) last night?
MEGA

i haven't told the dealer yet, its a 40mile round trip! i was hoping to fix myself, i'm kinda handy but i've never fixed a car (yet) nor attempted to!

No, wasnt me in formby! we dont do supermarket car parks in my new car!!!

Phil
Phil Palmer

well, 2 different rover dealers and 8 days in total and i'm still being told to rebook my car in for yet another day to sort out an annoying rattle in the tailgate.
don't know whats the matter with the dealers these days when they cant even sort out a small prob, fourth and very last rover i'll ever have - zr160.
the body panels dont line up properly, rattles, excessive wind noise from drivers window on motorways and the engine noise is way too much for a long distance motorway run

Rob
Rob

Sorry to hear about your problems Rob. I hope that you get it sorted.

Be very careful NOT to say ANYTHING negative about MGR, the people on this BB don't want the truth!
MEGA

mega
in reply to phil you say......
>Just for the record who is your (unhelpful) dealer.<
ive looked through what phil wrote and no where does it mention a unhelpfull dealer.but the facts have never got in the way of opening your mega mouth.
and also, i dont mind people criticizing the new MG's when its constuctive, but i just dont like ill informed scousers :o)
megas nemisis

I am here to stay matey!
Day in Day out!
MEGA

yawn...............
David

Hey, if the worst they can come up with is an annoying rattle, then maybe MG-R is on the mend...

Nevertheless, *yawn* is my opinion too.

Growler

well i know the probs i have are minor it is annoying that the "factory trained experts" cannot sort them out, i suppose in the end i'll end up stripping the back end (tailgate, boot side panels, etc) to sort it out myself, pi**es me off as i've got a 3 year warranty, makes you wonder doesn't it
rob

Sorry to hear about this Rob. Its a shame that your so far away from Liverpool. There is a team Guys here (Autotrim) who would sus that out in no time.

Please let us know how you get on/what you find. Try to present your findings in awy that WONT upset The "Rose tinted" specs of some people here on this BB!
MEGA

Mega, what planet do you inhabit.

Why do you read and then contribute to a BBS that exists mainly for people who have or interested in MG products. When you are so clearly against MG's. If you prefer products from Ford, then that is great. Go inflict your you’re bad spelling on the Ford BBS.
I would normally not want to get personal, but you really are a sad w****r!

John McFeely touched on the subject of a certain type of Brit. who likes nothing better than to slag off anything British.

He was 100% right in what he said. This is anti British attitude was originally perpetuated by the middle classes of this country. Who thought (and still do) automotive wise that everything foreign (usually German or Swedish) was better than home-grown product. It was and is considered the height of good fashion and taste to buy British last.
This attitude has perpetuated down through the middle classes to the nouvou rich and then the working class in general.
It also applies to everything from cars to fridge’s washing machines, every consumer product you can think of.
Great British companies have been bought, sold and traded over the last 20 years until there is virtually nothing left of British manufacturing.

We have now arrived at the point where the country is looking to a not very rosy future. The very rich will for the short term have nothing to worry about. Until that is 20 years time when we have no manufacturing and huge problems of unemployment and social unrest.
If you don't manufacture anything as a country and all your money leaves the country in the form of imported goods, then the country is F****d.
That is why the Germans and Japanese predominantly buy their own products. They are not stupid. Unlike the Brits.
In the cause of my job I travel all over the world. I know what poor countries look like.

Sorry to rant on, but the likes of Mega make my blood boil, the trouble is they account for a large proportion of the UK population.

By the way, before anyone asks, no I do not have a MG or Rover as my main car. But it was manufactured in Britain; my wife has a Metro (her second one). I want the MG Rover company to be in existence in 2 years time when my current car is replaced, and hope they have a car available in the product sector that I have.

Mega don't bother trying to spot any spelling mistakes (that's a laugh) I used a spell checker.

Oh well off to Egypt till Friday – wonderful during Ramadam.

ProMGR

I Guess I should of also used the Grammar checker as well.

Hmm i remember that Vauxhall thought about sueing J.D.POWER when they came bottom of the table one year. The same bulsh*t came from them as it is nowcoming from you.

I can only think your a dealer getting pissed at the likes of J.D and myself. To think you like METRO's and you call me a wan*er!
MEGA

Mega wot you still doing here I thought (hoped) you was buying a ford and sodding off.
Ian

I agree with proMGR

No Mega, I am not a dealer. I am a Sales Manager of a Large (American) Corporation, responsible for The Middle East & Africa. As I said I know what poor countries look like.

Regarding Metro's the wifes decision. She had one of the first 'K Series' variants when they first came out in the early nineties.
It never ever let her down in 5 years, so said she wanted more of the same when it came to be replaced. No input from me.

Once again I reiterate, Mega you really are a W*nker. Go and practice going blind somewhere else.

By the way before you mention that I work for an American company, all of the UK manufacturers in my field were purchased by American companies.
ProMGR

HMM A sales rep and not doing that well if all you can surply the wife is a ratty old Metro. I wonder if you have somthing on the side?

MEGA labels ALL MGFs crap based on his sample of 13 so called "sob stories". By his reasoning, my work colleagues with 12+ MGFs who do not have similar "sob stories" to relate about their cars obviously means that ALL MGFs are superb. The geezer's not worth further comment ...... except to say;

Have you repeated "Bad news travels faster and farther than good news" yet? Some people, sadly that still includes many brits, never learn.

When my glum faced neighbour told me he'd been recently made redundant he explained that apparently most of his customers were buying foreign because they believed, much to their cost they were later to discover, that they were buying a superior foreign product. I was sorely tempted to tell him to look on the bright side; lots of time to polish his BMW and the wife's Nissan. Some people do learn ..... the HARD way.

.... and finally MEGA, you still have yet to explain when you use the term "WE" when relating your 13 MGF "sob stories". If you work for some motor repair set up obviously most of the people who turn to your firm for help will have a "sob story" to relate about their cars, be they MGFs or whatever. Most scousers I've had the pleasure of knowing have balls and do NOT hide behind anonymity when they start flinging crap around like you do. Get your brain round that if you're able.
John McFeely

Thank you John.

You so put things much more clearly than I do, though I think we are both singing from the same hymn sheet.
I just wish that the general masses in this country could just project forward a few years. realise what happens now will affect the future.
No jobs in 20 years time means no taxes being collected, means no health service, no dole money, no BMW's.
Just a very unhappy poor population. Lot's of crime and poverty. Lovely.

To our American friends I appoligise, it's just that you have to live here to appreciate why the like's of uneducated ignorant and totally 'me centred' people like Mega piss me off so much.

Though I do think a lot of what John & I have written applies to the USA as well. Beware you guys the same will happen to you as well.
By the way for the record I am not against imported products, viv'e le difference (sorry terrible at French) I say. I am against people who like Mega who think it is clever to put down domestic products just because they think it is clever and chic.
Can't believe I just put Mega and the word chic in the same sentence hah hah hah hah hah.

HI ALL

I RUN my own engineering company, that means that know all about the NEEDS of my clients (MGR DONT). A lot of what i produce ends up abroad. A number of us on the industrail estate where i am based are in what we call the "Autocar posse".

We all have interesting cars, i went half with a friend of mine on a TVR 350i. I also drive an XJS, and only yesterday a 3 year old M3.

The only thing worse than not knowing your cars is working for someone other than your self.
I hope that answers your questions gentlimen.
MEGA

Mega,
Doing very nicely, thank you.
I get paid lots of money to fly all over the world and meet lots of interesting people, and of course I always stay in 5 star hotels.
On top of all that I can read and write as well.

If you r goin two conntinu 2 pist massages on tghis bored, then do us al a favuor and yuse a spel chequer first.

Failing that can you add after your name that your location is Barcelona.

I appoligise to anyone from Barcelona reading this board. I realise that you can most likely spell better in English than Mega.
ProMGR

"Doing very well"?
And the wife drives a Metro
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
MEGA

I do believe that you managed to spell everything correctly that time. Did you take my advice?
ProMGR

Wife drives a Metro, Wife drives a Metro HA HA HA!
MEGA

MEGA,

you WRITE again ... << Wife drives a Metro, Wife drives a Metro HA HA HA! >> So what's wrong with the wife driving a 6R4 .... :-P.

.... but, you're still anonymous! I could believe you if you were not hiding behind anonymity. As it is, you could simply be some spotty kid wind-up merchant poncing about on dad's pc. From your style of communication, most people would come to a similar conclusion. God forbid I should ever need your "engineering" services. If I did and you demonstrated the kind of bigotry you show on this BBS, you would not get my custom. Engineering is in my opinion one of the finest of professions and trades. Isambard Kingdom Brunel - now he was an engineer - is one of my heros. Not film or pop stars (certain scousers and a few others excepted .... :0)), but people with a really worthwhile talent who shape all our futures. I-K-B, along with Mitchell (actung Spitfiren), Camm (Hurricane; Hunter), Gresley, Churchward, Collett, Stanier, Maunsell, Issigonis, David Brown, Lyons, Kimber, Chapman and many others .... Rules OK.

I close this response with something we do appreciate and actually have in common. To work for oneself and run your own business is something everybody should try at least once in their lives. Providing a good service and keeping clients happy and, more importantly, coming back for more .... you cant beat that ... I too speak from experience.

Now please go away and drool over you alien wheels brochures ...... ;-)
John McFeely

I.K.B Would weep to the level of engineering that is used on the "F" John. I could spend hours trying to tell you what they got wrong. The main problem is NOT MGR but the people who make the parts. The subframes don't last 5 mins, and its very important to balance the air presure in them correcty. I hear that the coming 230 BHP F will have differnt set because the standard one is hopeless!
Mega

STILL anonymous MEGA wrote:

<< I could spend hours trying to tell you what they got wrong >>

No thanks, I'm fully aware of them. How about spending five minutes telling me about what they got RIGHT with the F!

Attractive, fun, nice handling, affordable, reasonable performance, economical and all the rest.

Considering the financial restraints Rover Group found themselves in at the time they came up with the MGF, they performed a minor miracle. Please name one other manufacturer who could come out with a desirable car with both financial hands securely tied behind their back and a far from well meaning Quack German Doctor hovering in the background. No wonder the English patient felt a little sick!!!!!! Getting better now though no thanks to the likes of you.
John McFeely

Isn't it amazing how ONE person can disrupt a BB? I have the same problem on another Board I post to.
I think the best way is to IGNORE these idiots, but that doesn't always work.
