55k on my ZS180... the clutch slave cyclinder failed a couple of weeks ago and the engine uses a fair bit of oil.

Hi Ralph, Kent

My clutch slave cyclinder failed on my ZS180 at 29K a couple of weeks ago as well. Mind you when they changed it it seem to sort out alot of problems with gears and even the running of the car. (Probably not connected)

KV6 in it's original Rover 825 spec did have a few teething problems following introduction, however since and certainly since the Rover 75 application and since the KV6 has built a pretty rock solid reputation. In the initial period of MG use of the engine there was some issues with heavier than expected oil consumption during hard use in the first 5 to 10k miles. This was an issue relating to an extended bedding in period of rings to bores and once this was completed oil consumption is expected to be minimal, although this doesn't absolve owners from doing weekly oil level checks which so many seem to forget!

R75 KV6 2500cc - owned was faultless in 29k miles.
ZT190 - blew up its engine after 3,500 miles (oil checked leaving Le Mans). Faultless on new engine, sold at 28k.

37,000 miles and seems okay to me! It does drink oil, but as Roger says, keep checking the level weekly. I also change the oil between the service intervals given the lengthy gaps.

Heck it also sounds nice and delivers enjoyable performance!

Engine expired at 3,500 miles? By 'eck.
