MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Limited Edition ZS?
Does anybody know if there will be any upcoming sportier ZS180's coming out? I thought there might be a beefed up model to make the most of the touring car connection what I really want to see is a supercharged ZS180 the current ZS180 is good but in my opinion it really needs to be competing with the Scoobies and Evo's -matt |

Hi matt, its no secret that MGR are developing a Super/turbo charged K series engine, this would almost certainly be fitted to the ZS, and (IMO) would go well in the ZR & ZT as well (in the ZT as a cheaper option to the V6s). As for timescales, I've heard "end of the year" mentioned for the Ultimate TF (i.e. probably using this engine), so it would make sense for a ZS using this engine to be released around the same time, if not a little sooner. thanks Steve hopefully I'll assume it's going to be on the KV6 and they aren't thinking of just dropping the 4 cylinder K into the ZS for this purpose it's a turbo/supercharged KV6 I want to see in the ZS! I do think they should have one out in time for the BTCC season, I think it would generate a lot of sales of a 'special edition' especially as it looks like the ZS's are going to fair very well this season... -matt |

Matt, as far as I know, its the 4 pot K series that being charged.. at least for now. From a company car tax point of view, a charged 1.8K is alot better for potiental company car buyers than a supercharged V6. I' sure that MGR are keen to do something about this. The other advantage from MGR's point of view is that a blown 4 pot is likely to fit into more potiental cars than a blown V6, although the rumours of a blown KV6 ZR are still circulating! Steve. |

It would be nice to see a Ultimate ZS at the BTC season closer ala last years 888 Astra, hopefully after MGR have wrapped up the series. |

The prospect of a blown KV6 2.5 litre in the ZS is not as easy as may first appear, indeed it is possible the blown 1.8 K will suffer the same restriction. This is with the PG1 gearbox. The PG1 comes in two specs in terms of torque handling, 216Nm and 240Nm. Bear in mind that the ZS 180 is already delivering 240Nm and that the ZT 190 spec is 245Nm there would clearly be a need for additional uprating of the PG1, if economically possible, or substituting for the Getrag from the ZT. Either is a considerable extra expence and engineering project. This isn't an issue that can be left to chance as it was with the Metro Turbo so then the cost has to be weighed against projected sales and future additional applications that the re-engineered parts can be used in. That latter point may just tip the scales in favour of doing it, but like the much rumoured forced induction MGF, now TF, it will certainly not be about for quite a while. Rog |
