MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - MG ZR TD
Looking at the spec for this car, the engine dimentions look very familiar. Is it an 'O' Series diesel engine? Where can I find more data on the car? The MG Club's site does not mention the car in its model lists. The M.G.-Rover site's request page for a brochure fails to come up on my PC. Neil. |

Yep...as usual, it's based on a 15-20 year old design! No, it's not th eO Series block but it is similar dimensionally. VW TDi here we come! |

But isn't VW's diesel based on the EA827 which is a 30+ year design? |

It's a "L" series, a pure Rover engine ! I had a Rover 420 SDI with the same engine for six years (and absolutely no problem). If you want more details, see : http://www.mg-rover.com/ or http://www.xpower-mg.co.uk/ or http://www.mg-rover.org/ |

.....Granted, this maybe the case with a 30 year old design but look how they've developed it? 150BHP now.....very impressive I say. The L Series is old technology now, it needs work/replacement ASAP. |

The ZS and ZR use Rover's Diesel engine, the ZT uses a detuned 110 bhp BMW diesel engine (BMW will not sell the more powerful unit to them). MG R offer a rechip to >130bhp. |

Land Rover used it until the far superior TD4 unit became available - and it was considered 'unrefined' in a 4x4! ...and it still soldiers on! In a passenger car for chrissakes! |
