MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - MGZS tyre problems

Hi
Got a MGZS180 with tyre problems.
The rear tyres on my ZS have developed a warp after 20,000 miles. Still plenty of tread on them but the tyres are now uneven and look like they have a flat spot on them. Im getting a lot of vibration from the rear a speed. This is the second set of tyres that have done this. Whats causing it and is this common/
Cheers

Not heard of this before, so common no!
What tyre make and what pressures?

The rear shocks should be ok, but there could be a problem with those causing the excessive wear!
Kelvin

I was wrong, this is the 3rd set of tyres.
1st set Michelen did 36,000 miles, other 2 sets Pirelli's did 30,000 miles and this set only 24,000 miles. I drive over 1000 miles a week but have never come across this problem before. Haven't noticed any bounce from the rear shocks.

It could be a problem with warped disks. If the brakes are binding they could cause a flat spot. Try jacking the rear up with the handbrake off (chocking the fornt wheels!) and then spin the rear wheels to see if there is any resistance.

Well i've had to put new tyres on the back....again.
The tyre fitter said that tyres can warp when there is only 4-5 mill left on them and its common.
I've been driving for 30 years and i've never had this problem before.

S.O.B.! Most tyres only start with 7-8mm of tread, so this would mean that you would only get to use less than half the legal life of the tyre!

Can you explain in more detail where the flat spots of the tread are?

Well Ralph
If you spin the wheels you can see the tyres going up and down. The tread on the outside of the tyres is lower than the inside.
4-5 mill left on the tyre should be about 20,000 on the back

You have done 90k miles in total, is that right, on 3 full sets of tyres?

I would say you have done well, I consider myself caustious on the gas pedal and at best managed to get 18k mile out a set of fronts, and just stay legal. Other people I know get about 12-14k from a set of fronts.

I've done 56k, on the third set of fronts, second set of rears (not all down to wear, but puntured tyres due to malicous damage)

Yep 90,195 miles. Now 3 sets in front and 4 sets in back. Should be the other way round really.
