MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - New look R45 looks like 75

Does this mean the ZS will share the ZT front?

Word on the street and the 'photoshop' impressions, suggest not!
It will be nearer the 'SV' look!!

That would be more impressive Kelvin although I think the Rover looks quite nice, both outside & inside.
Now hope there are some new engine options-especially the 160HP 1.8T
Tony

I won't comment on the look or specs but it isn't long before you'll have some information, and it has generated some very positive comment from those who have seen it.

I love the new 45's look - it bares more than a passing resemblance to the current BMW 3 series, and frankly, is none the worse for that! ;o) Especially as the new 3-series is bound to have been 'Bangled' ;o)

Looking forward to seeing the new ZS :o)

Was just going to make the same comment about the 45/BMW similarity Rob,but I think its a pity.Hence look forward to the 'different' MG version.
I understand the 45 interior has also been updated?(which is not the case for the 75 which I just saw, although the 75's original interior always looked good)
Tony

No indication on the press release regarding the ZS's proposed release date - one thing at a time I guess - and it is the R45 that is struggling more in the market than the MG.

You're right about the 45's new interior Tony - but nothing contained in the press release regarding appearance - well, other than 'stylish rotary vents' and 'soft-fell membrane switches' - what ever they are...

From what reports are saying, this car is going to be around at least until '05 - but after this comprehensive re-vamp, perhaps a little longer than that?

>>'soft-fell membrane switches' <<

P'raps they mean "Soft Feel Membranes" like those used on my Microwave Oven's control panel.......

P.S. I still like the look of the 'old' MG ZS.....

According to the MG Rover website, it says the revised 45 will be launched on 20th April....

Like Tony, many had asked for the 1.8Turbo in the ZS but, while reviewing it in the new 75,Auto Express say "it is let down by its unrefined engine"
What do readers think?

The K 1.8 is a bag of spanners in the 75 - whilst it is running and not suffering from terminal HGF!
Eric

Oh thanks for those key points of advice Eric, I shant ever buy one then.....or just maybe I'd be first in the queue ...;-)

Not driven one yet, but it's quite possible that in the larger car, the K16-Turbo will have to work that much harder thus appearing less refined compared to the smoother KV6.

There's a new R45 in my local showroom. In the flesh, it's even more noticeably different from it's predecessor than I expected. Indeed, to my eyes, the difference is stark, quite Un-Rover-like I you see my meaning. Actually, to this observer, quite pleasing for what is after all, an ordinary production car. Sort of an IN YOUR FACE Rover .... way to go in fact.... Yes, well done...

The previous R45 was a little too low profile and rather bland, particularly those examples in the less vibrant available colours, for my motoring tastes.

The new car is a breath of fresh air in comparison.

Not seen it yet, but, if the new MG ZS is only half as good 'in the flesh' as the pictures of it I've so far seen, then I strongly suspect it will be well received by the punters, particularly as the interior has also had much revision. Roll on....

Compared to the silken KV6 in the same application George, ANY four cylinder is going to appear 'unrefined'... When you buy a car as special as the 75, you really do hanker for that special engine note too.

1.8T in a 45/ZS? Should make for a very interesting combination, and ought to appeal to the mid-sized aspirations of the car too.
