MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - New ZR rev counter problem

Not having much luck with this new ZR of mine..

Not content with leaking rain over the passenger footwell, I'm also having problems with my rev counter. I've had three occasions now where the rev counter has not been working until some time into my journey, when it springs into life and works as normal. First time I drove from Theydon Bois, and it started working just ater joining the M1, when I had to brake fairly hard. Latest time it started again when I went round a bend at speed.

Yes, yes, got to get it booked in at the dealers. Anyone else experienced this, or got any suggestions as what the problem might be?

oh, and yes, the driver's seat is really creaky. Loads of squeaks and creaks. Anyone else had this?

Cheers

Squeaky seats, yup - seems to be a characteristic of the ZR. Turn the radio up a bit and they stop ;)

As for the rev counter problem, sounds like a loose connection somewhere, the dealer should be able to sort that out, no problem. Never heard of it before though. Has it always done that, even since you picked it up? If so, I'd question the dealer on how good their Pre-Delivery Inspections are.

Cheers Steve! Already turned the radio up to drown out the wind noise from the driver's door LOL. Still, found that once you get to 100mph the diesel engine drowns out all other sounds of civilisation.

The rev counter was alright when I picked it up and for the first weekend. When I used it the next weekend the problem started.

Booked in at the dealers to get it all sorted.

oh, and the dealer's going to get rid of those bl**dy Europlates that I never asked them to fit. Hate driving around with those silly gold stars on my car.

Ask your dealer to grease the springs in the seats. My ZR160 drivers seat was exactly the same. After the dealer grease the seats it is lovely and quiet. Weel apart from the roar from the engine as I turn in to born again boy racer !

Nigel...can we not tempt you into coming along to an NMGO meet-up then? 18 August and 22 September are the next two.

Go to www.nmgo.info for route overviews of both and the events and social board for details of the 13 or so already signed up.

And if you're a born again boy racer, this will be ideal for you as I'm the same.

I thought I had creaky seats, and they were annoying me for ages, but after a spring clean (involving removing the spare wheel and folding down the back seats) the squeak is gone. Always worth a check as my spare wheel wasn't seated correctly.
