MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Next Year Looks GREAT!

Next year looks like a great one for Sports cars. Ford is soon to lunch the Focus RS Turbo and ST 170. The Mini-cooper-s will be with us as will the Astra 190 Turbo.

Least we forget dear old MGR. With a ZT coming with rear drive and a motser FORD V8!

At last it would seem that MGR has "woken up and smelt the coffee" for the MGF! They are going to do a way with that bloody awful old Hydragas suspension. When the MGF is facelifed next year. The excuse for its demise is that is too expensive to produce for just one model.

When if fact this is the leakiest link in the MGF and with real conventional suspension they may start to get it to handle consistently!

2003/04 should see Porsche and LOTUS in close combat with the Boxster coupe V the M250 Mark 2 (pity we never got the mark1!) MG should hopefully be producing the X70 and X71 (Please see Autocar 27 June 2001 for details).

Turbocharging seems to be making a comeback.Rover gave up on it because it adds one third to the total cost of a typical engine as in the T series unit. They decided to go the VVC route,so now you have to thrash the nuts off the thing to get it to go anywhere.Modern turbo's offer much better torque delivery across the range without constant cog stirring which is probably why these manufacturers are using it for their high performance models. So come on Rover, how about a KV6 turbo or a VVC turbo, along with a capable chassis of course!.
Kevin Davis

Kevin, there will be a Supercharged 1.8K series next year, destined for the ZS. (And it will probably find its way into the MGF as well). I don't know if its the VVC, I suspect it will be.

Hmmmm, Details of the new Scooby have just been released too. Theres a new WRX STi UK Type coming. 2.0 litre uprated turbo, 165ps, 148mph, 0-60 in 5.2 and a 6 speed box. 330mm Brembo brakes, 17" alloys (gold though), with 225/45 ZR's all around.
It also has bucket Alacantara STi seats and a satellite tracker fitted as standard.
Actually looks good too IMO. Base price is £21.5K, with the Prodrive version(which has NO mechanical changes - Only Spoilers and bumpers) at £22.8k. All +Vat 'n' stuff

Cheers

Local Scooby dealer phoned yesterday on this one. Top dog model is £27,500. Similar to the greys brought in by Warrenders, except that Tracker is fitted and visually looks similar except that the rear spoiler looks like that fitted to the WRC model and it's £4k cheaper.

I suspect that it will make the standard 276 bhp with 98RON!
